High anxiety - Dusit poll confirms the worst as Thailand suffers in pandemic

When you think that the population of Thailand is to-date nearly 70,000,000 and only 57 have died (that is if the deaths were not due to heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, diabetes, old age, etc.) , then as far as I am concerned, it is a crime that the government continues these draconian measures that are causing so much suffering, ill health, and suicides.

Also, have you noticed that only small businesses are targeted.

Nearly three quarters of respondents said that a rise in household expenses and a decline in their health were of most concern.

I am not surprised that there is a decline in health because the masks cause ill health (look up Dr. Blaylock's article on masks), segregation of people causes ill health, and lack of sunlight causes ill health, only to name a few.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to the supermarket to buy some food and of course I was obliged to wear a mask to enter. After about an hour, I suddenly felt dizzy because of lack of oxygen and breathing back in my own carbon dioxide and goodness knows what chemicals from the material of the mask.

It is a crime and it is dictatorship. People enforcing these measures should be made accountable and face legal proceedings.

One more thing – Why isn't anyone going after the creators of this corona virus? All corona viruses are patented so they are not natural and are owned by harm-doers! Why are people not talking about this?

Did anyone else catch the BKK post article just a few days ago that stated there was so much cash rolling into Banks that they quite literally couldn't put it to use given the economic climate.

I had a good laugh indeed.

Money in  reserve is foreign currency which is not in the hands of the government but the central bank.

But taxes will indeed go up in the future to pay off the current loans or just to service the interest.

and who’s the Central Bank of Thailand run by ????

Even more puzzling, then, why the THB continues to be so strong although the economic situation apparently is in such shambles. Something stinks.

Because the Fed and ECB are printing money in quantities that is unprecedented.  I know "unprecedented" has been thrown around a lot recently.   But I am using the literal definition in this case.

Its not the Baht getting stronger, its the dollar, yen, euro etc all getting much weaker

For goodness sake, that's been repeatedly shown to be a myth, you were probably getting dizzy at your own anxiety.https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2020/05/30/fact-check-wearing-face-mask-not-cause-hypoxia-hypercapnia/5260106002/

Has Thailand even really had a first wave?  Without any herd immunity it's going to be near impossible to fully reopen without the prospect of going in to lockdown again fairly soon afterwards.  Thailand is hamstrung.  Covid19 isn't going away any time soon.

It's actually gone away.

You can see why the authorities are in no hurry to open the borders. With no CV19 in Thailand the only way it will get here is if someone brings it in.

The challenge is balancing that fact up with the other fact that tourism accounts for circa 20% of Thailand's GDP.

this isn't even over yet, people are acting as if it is. This virus is here to stay unless a vaccine is created, a British scientist stated that there is a 50-50 chance of a functioning and effective vaccine being generated. Thailand hasn't entered it's flu season yet either! We need to learn how to adapt and live with this virus being here for the long haul

What is over, is the fear-porn working.  This virus is dangerous to a very small and specific portion of the population only.  The data is very clear on this.  it is NOT "Spanish Flu II".

Hospitals were not overrun, and that was the only functional purpose of "flattening the curve" - the downside being increasing the lifespan of the virus  - to the extent those measures even worked, which is questionable, given how well it spreads, especially indoors.

The sooner the rest of us get it and develop immunity, the sooner the vulnerable don't have to worry, because viruses die-out when most of the population is immune to them.  That's what happens every year with cold and flu bugs.

Perhaps you've noticed the almost daily reports in the Thai media about Thai citizens returning from abroad and being found to have the virus, just about every day. Just because Thailand has done a good job of isolation is no reason to throw all of that away and open up the country to loads of infected tourists, it would be economic suicide.

We hear about new cases from returning travellers, because they are tested.  If they tested the general population, I would bet good money they would find many carriers everywhere.

And on the returnees, we get "x had fever," and later, "y tested positive for covid."  What I would like to know, is how many with reported-fever had flu or something else, and how many who tested positive ever had symptoms?  Most who get it don't ever feel sick.

Boy was I wrong. I assumed, from news reports, that the most frightening things in Thailand were:

   - Someone lighting up within 100 meters of them;

   - Someone lighting up within 200 meters of them;

   - Someone buying a beer not approved by the vote of four seperate government agencies within the previous 24 hours;

   - Someone seeing the uncovered face of a female who is not a family member;

   - Someone seen enjoying life which, obviously, could lead to all sorts of wonton behavior.

It will not come as a surprise to the more astute of us that the government reaction to COVID was far reaching and absolutely devastating to the country's finances as well as the populations health and well being. Believing those "advisors" who were never heard of before make stark unrealistic predictions of doom and gloom to posture themselves in public as saviour's, while all the time secretly wishing and pushing the lockdown narrative and ignoring is obvious consequences. Now, the poor people of this country will have to pay heavily in additional taxes to pay for the mismanagement of this flu. They like to say COVID as if it is far more dangerous when in fact it is far less of a danger than the common flu. They are holding the current, unnecessary restrictions in order to validate to the public their immense failure to assess the virus and act accordingly and relied mainly on the advice of those you stood to gain from the announcement of a pandemic ( mostly foreign medical assessors)

This government has spearheaded the biggest hoax since 2001. The consequences of which will be far reaching and more terrible than any virus! It is strange that they never gave basic advice to build the immune systems of the people and allow them to continue to work? Wonder why?

Likely so in Jan/Feb, when the carriers from Wuhan brought it in.  The deaths casued were attributed to other things, naturally, since the Chinese could never be blamed for anything.  It's not as though "special non-carrier" Chinese came here, while the carrier-ones primarily went to Italy.

Who knows if that has not already happened?  A wide-scale testing regimen, including antibody testing, would be needed to find out.

Let's see when they get brazen enough to start offering communism as the solution to all their woes.

Sometimes I wonder if that was the point of this whole exercise.  It's hard to believe all the experts could be so far off in their doom-and-gloom predictions - but maybe they just could not know that this virus was only a significant danger to the morbidly overweight and/or those in nursing-home / hospice environments.

That’s why in my soy 4 houses out of ten have drinking parties (Boxes of beer and liquor) every other night because they need to ease their worries regarding lack of income. Now ic what you mean.

they do have a lot of reserves,but they will not use them for ordinary people.They will simply tax them.Same as every other country.When this is over.the poor will pay.Sadly that is the way of the world.tax havens have been set up .so the rich do not have to pay.and if you tax the big companys.they simply move to a lower tax country.So the system is simple blackmail set up by the wealthy and theres nothing you can do about it.Same as these brainwashed global warming idiots.a system of lies to make big money for the banks.But same same media.people actualy believe the <deleted> that they are being fed.

On the contrary, honesty and empathy are expressed in many ways in the Thai language.

Maybe you don't speak Thai?

Rooster

Honesty and empathy expressed roughly as follows, in Thai language of course, by taxi van driver hogging the fast lane:

"Ambulance, eh? Think that noise and flashing lights will get you anywhere fast, do you? Hey, don't tailgate me! I'm not moving over. Go try somewhere else! I can go faster than you anyway. Think you're king of the road, do you? Well, mate, you're on my turf here and I've gotta get somewhere too. No way you're passing me, urgent or not. We all have priorities. And I was here first."

Actions speak louder than words, my friend - in any language.

It should be noted that these concerns are very important to Covid 19. And, they are not just separate concerns (as the survey attempted to do), but vastly more important. Per my wife (her native Thai gets to these matters and my totally inept basic Thai doesn't) our neighbors place near 0% concern on Covid 19. Due to all the recent reports of no Covid 19 in Thailand (save people who just got here from elsewhere), our neighbors think there is not risk. But, they do talk about these financial consequences daily and are clearly deeply troubled by them.

Not surprising, sooner or later the risk of covid will be outweighed by the financial consequences of the lockdown. Thailand does not have any welfare support to speak of so I am quite surprised the locals haven't just packed themselves off and gone back to work so they can feed their families

"Just over 67% cited a drop in salaries"

That makes promoting domestic tourism somewhat problematic - many people simply don't have enough money to splurge on a holiday.

Oh, so you believe Adrienne Dunn of USA TODAY, a journalist who is paid to write what the newspaper is paid to write.  Is he a medical expert, and he must have done medical research on the subject, right?  Where are the details of this writer?  Keep believing such guys and you will do well in the world to come!

And no, I was not anxious shopping in a supermarket - how would you know that, are you a doctor?

To be more clear......tourism is 20% of exports, exports are 60% of GDP. It therefore follows that tourism is 12% of GDP. Automotive parts and assembly is a function of exports, restuarants and hotels are a part of tourism.

Clear as a bell.

If you'd even bothered to read the article you would have seen: Neither the CDC nor the World Health Organization has issued warnings suggesting the use of surgical face masks would result in dangerous oxygen level depletion within the general public.
