Study panning anti-malaria drug Trump took against COVID faces new questions

Ok, maybe I should have written: It has possible bad side-effects.

I read one study of that drug was cancelled because too many participants had too many bad side effects.

That was the Brazil study, which inexplicitly gave one group huge doses beyond even what is used to treat malaria, which is very high. Many questioned this point. Also, no zinc.

Please report back how the drugs recommended by non-mainstream media are working on you. Please start with this one.

You did not understand the article. The very very long winded Reuters story essentially said that due to irrational hatred of Donald Trump, scientists fudged and smeared results of the drug tests. While the drug may have worked fine the scientists were triggered by the Trump association and abandoned research projects to give the impression the drug is hopeless and even dangerous when used for covid treatment, which was against the findings of the study results.

Shameful how low they are stooping. This is the lab rat version of burning and looting the Jimmy Choo store in Manhatten. We're triggered and boy you are going to know about it. These "scientists" are going to be out of work very soon.

Where in the article did it say or imply anything about "irrational hatred of Donald Trump"? I think it's your statement alleging this that is irrational.

placebo should mean:  sugar pill or salt water (saline) with chemicals...

hydroxychloroquine should be used with ZINC to prevent (so not when the patient is on a ventilator on his way to DEATH) to prevent the virus from penetrating new cells...

Can you provide a source to back up your statement about using the meningitis vaccine as a placebo?

UPDATE

The Lancet medical journal on Tuesday issued an “expression of concern” over the study in question. Several issues surround the paper's author who used his own non transparent commercial database (Surgisphere) for his analysis.

From ARS Technica:

In addition to a lack of transparency over the data, a report by The Scientist magazine noted that Surgisphere’s founder, Dr. Sapan Desai, who trained in vascular surgery and founded the company in 2008, resigned from a hospital position shortly after three medical malpractice suits were filed against him in 2019.

Further, before Desai and Surgisphere focused on data analytics, their most public activity was selling medical textbooks. According to The Scientist, the textbooks had fake 5-star reviews on Amazon from accounts impersonating actual physicians.

There's more in the ARS article.  Two more journals have issued warnings about additional studies of other drugs that used the Surgisphere database.

So how long did he take it. Is the covid threat finished in 21 days?

Because a WH staff member tested positive so he began to take it as a prophylactic. After all staff again tested negative and after the mandatory 14 day waiting period he stopped, as it was no longer needed.

Obviously it was done to protect the safety of a sitting president and clearly with WH medial staff supervision. The rest was probably just to mess with his antagonists' heads, which it did.

Why is it no longer needed, does he have a crystal ball to tell him his staff will never get it again? If it cant hurt him then why stop.

btw, whitehouse aides are tested every day, other staff every week, yet somehow a negative test one day turned into a positive test the next.

so your reasoning makes no sense.

That's what tests do, they turn positive when you get sick. If they didn't, then the president would need to continue the medication.

-- Why is it no longer needed?

Because tests turn positive.

Don't you people know by now that trump knows EVERYTHING better than every expert/doctor/general or any other sensible person in the whole universe?!?

He knows it all, and he is always looking out for his (american) people and he is NEVER only looking at his own interests or his family's interest... he is a true man of the (his) people, never afraid (after his army teargassed or shot anyone against him).
Unfortunately most republicans believe this <deleted> and voted for this 'hero'. If america wants respect to return, they'd better vote for a human being next time around...

Taking Hydroxychloroquine against the Corona virus works ONLY if you drink every day a bottle of bleach (preferable Toilet cleaner) and swallow every week an UV-lamp.
It's true because God Trump said it in his tweets.
Tweety, tweety, tirely twitty ..........

Yes, some of the lies are emerging. I explained further up the thread what I suspect is going on here.

I'll summarise :

Very cheap old drug = bad

Expensive new drug = good

Irrelevant if either of them actually work or not, who has the most to gain?

And the Lancet has retracted their article on this and apologized.

"The journal’s editor, Richard Horton, said he was appalled by developments. “This is a shocking example of research misconduct in the middle of a global health emergency,” he told the Guardian."

Now if other haters would do something similar, we would be on the right road.

The Guardian and MSM is persistently attacked by members representing the Right, globalist blah, blah, so for a start how about you apologising for misrepresentation.

Considering there are so many different analysis concerning Covid related matters I'll wait for a majority universal report confirming empirically proven 'truth'.

Glad you now see Reuters is good. But no, "The very very long winded Reuters story essentially said that due to irrational hatred of Donald Trump, scientists fudged and smeared results of the drug tests.", that is not what the article said.

Read between the lines. It's pretty obvious that this was being used as just another stick to beat Trump with. Add it to the hundreds that came before.

IMO even if it worked 100% the usual suspects would be saying it didn't.

It's precisely because of this irrational hatred of the man that some support him, IMO.

Another reason why Trump should be removed and investigated. Follow the money. Who profited from his constant recommendation of a dangerous drug.

All commercially available drugs are tested before being offered for sale. If it was actually dangerous it would either be unavailable or prescription only and used under a Doctor's supervision.

Many if not most drugs have unintended side effects in some people, which is why they have a list of all the potential side effects that comes with the medication.

Only fools or blind believe this kind of research is done to attack Trump.

Starting less that 12 hours after Trump's comment, the MSM started a relentless barrage of articles, night and day, attacking Trump and chloroquine. To heil will facts. I personally have never seen anything like it. There was not a negative word about chloroquine and SARS in the 15 years prior to Trump's comment.

It is so bad that I and likely many others now set google's search date to before the day he spoke to find any real information.

See my first comment "If you spout nonsense you can expect a backlash. ". Yes, Trump spouted nonsense, and especially with matters regarding health care in the situation the US was and is in, a backlash was to be expected and IMO justified.

Correct. And drugs are approved for some illnesses and conditions. They should not be used for other conditions only because some non-expert wants to do that.

Are you seriously saying that Trump woke up one morning and just decided to start using a drug he knew nothing about? He's POTUS and he has all the medical assistance he needs to advise him.

However, never let a chance for an anti Trump rant to pass.

BTW, drugs can be used for purposes other than what they were created for. I'm sure it happens all the time.

Are you seriously saying he listens to expert advice and cares about facts?

Are you seriously saying he thinks before he does anything?

If you have any evidence that he thinks then please present it. The world is waiting to see such evidence.

I was strongly advised against taking it as an anti malarial drug more than 10 years ago. Its negative effects have long been known about. The press and public immediately baulked at Trump's recommendation of the drug, because they couldn't believe that a head of state would recommend a drug to the people which was unapproved for the purpose and had known serious side effects. Reckless in the extreme. The public needed factual information - stat!

There were few articles about CQ and HCQ  because the trials results were not known. The media article's just followed the rhythm of trial results publication (see graph from one of your sources).

https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/covid-19-clinical-trials-report-card-chloroquine-and-hydroxychloroquine/

As for the identification of dangerous side-effects, the Chinese have already forbidden to use this drug on people aged 65+ on Feb. 29.
