If you were found without a proper visa or leave permission and removed yourself voluntarily right away from the country, there were no legal consequences so ever. Maybe it's because they are allowed to integrate and feel welcome... I've lost count of the amount of Thais that have lost their life savings to a foreigner when they haved lived there, being ripped off by those pesky foreigners at every turn, and that having to pay 10x what a Brit has to pay to enter Windsor Castle.
