Thailand ranks 47th in world study: How safe do you feel about living in and visiting Thailand?

Thai media has reported the findings of a study from Hong Kong that puts Thailand in 47th place of the safest countries in the world from Covid-19.

The study was reported by Forbes and published in the kingdom by Sanook.

At the top of the list came Switzerland followed by Germany. The USA was in 58th place and the UK ranked 68th.

The report, from the Deep Knowledge group that is part of an investment firm, is based on more than 100 quantitative and qualitative parameters. It considers thousands of data points based on categories like quarantine efficiency, monitoring and detection, health readiness and the efficiency of governments.

Thaivisa notes that these categories have both been praised and criticized in Thailand with many skeptical about figures and particularly critical in the area of monitoring and detection.

The Forbes article said that earlier rankings put countries that were well prepared and reacted quickly to the pandemic higher. Now those with very robust economies like Germany are ranking higher.

Other countries on the list include Australia in 8th, New Zealand 9th, Canada 12th and Italy 53rd.

The question now for Thailand is how safe do YOU feel if you live here?

And as Thailand prepares to open its airports and borders again - How safe do you feel about coming to visit Thailand?

I think once you see how dangerous the drivers are here you probably won’t be too worried about catching the CCP Flu

  • total fake news.   thailand has had a mere 58 or so deaths from the wuwu. by those numbers alone thailand is surely the best ? no ?

I feel perfectly safe. However when I told the neighbours where I had been running, they were horrified, "Yaba dealers and guns down there". So they don't feel safe either.

I feel pretty safe at the moment, but there is a strong possibility of a more serious second wave if containment precautions are relaxed too soon.

Much safer than in the west of course, otherwise I wouldn't have lived here for 30 years.

How safe living in? On borrowed time until CCP gets control, so just about the same as Papillon.

The old advice of not investing more in Thailand than you're willing to walk away from is still valid.

Depends on the school uniform you are wearing. How many times has there been students killed or chased down and beaten with fighting between technical colleges.

And just to note, on the Forbes list of The 100 Safest Countries In The World For COVID-19, PR China is ranked #7.

That guy that stole a bunch of eggs from a stall has been shamed.  So I feel safe now.  I'm just worried about the rise of people that take more than one napkin.  There might be copycat crimes.

I once witness a child snap a leaf off a plant.  I am still not sure if I should com forward as a witness.

Come on now. There is very limited testing here. Therefore those numbers are highly questionable.

Therefore I think such a low ranking which will be shocking to many is quite fair and realistic.

I feel Thailand is quite safety country by covid-19. I must go visiting soon in Europe but I go just after can be sure first that I can return back as tourist to Thailand in one month from leaving.

There may not be much testing here in Thailand but I "assume" if anybody was admitted to the hospital with covid it would show up in the stats.  Zero is a pretty low number.   So I feel extremely safe.

But Thailand may have done too good a job in stopping the spread therefore no herd immunity and susceptible to an outbreak if/when borders are reopened.

Based on what? The world has been shoulder to shoulder protesting and looting for 2 weeks and numbers still getting better. First lockdown was a farce as are threats of a "second wave"

How right you are. Thailand should be careful not to relax the precautions too much and too early. If Thailand continues being careful, it will remain as one of the safest countries as far as this awful pandemic is concerned.

Who scare of this virus (kill 0.8 %) ?

Not so many...

Who scare on the road ?

Everybody.

If NZ is not ranked number 1, then the report is bunk.

Germany had 8,884 deaths and Switzerland had 1936...and still have active cases.

NZ had 22 and is now 100% Corona virus free with no restrictions.

Don't really factor in Wuhan China virus when I  factor in safety matters.  The flu may not have a big impact here but Dengue fever and Malaria Do!  I worry about those 2 more than Wuhan China virus. Out on the road safety is not a big focus for Thais, that concerns me more! If you choose to  live here you have to accept it for what it is.

Thailand 47th???? With 58 deaths and only 3000 odd cases....ridiculous. One of the safest places on earth. Well done the government. I am not someone who gives the military style junta government much credit.....but in this case they have performed admirably.

So just how did Forbes go about conducting a "study" with the flights being banned ? Oh so they must have conducted a phone interview with Taweesin ....More malicious and fake news. Get a grip then swing away !

New Zealand down at #9 in spite of being the only verifiable Covid free country on the world.

I feel perfectly safe given Covid-19 is just another seasonal flu which has been blown way out of proportion by the PTB [powers that be]

And when are people going to start calling it by it's proper name,   Stupid-19

Isn't this a problem for parts of Bangkok only? No such problem in Chiang Mai but  elsewhere?

and Taiwan at 16. Completely absurd.

There are lies, damn lies and statistics. 58 deaths is the average for daily road deaths and no body cares about that, so why the fuss over covid.
