  • This is just a childish comment. Maybe you've been damaged somehow by alcohol but please not everyone that drinks alcohol is an alcoholic.

That seems to be part of this government's plan.

  • I feel for the bars and the workers!  But I don't feel for the big alcohol companies - Chang, Leo, Singha.  These companies have such a monopoly that they won't let small businesses make craft be

Of course it will recover. Might take a while but it will. Might not be so many grubby litlle bars around with chairs and tables stuck together with pallet wood and 4" nails and that won't be a big loss.

It's not the end of the world, yet ????????.

maybe they will legalise gambling and turn the bars into hotel casinos

You're correct, only about 20% have full blown alcoholism with another 20% classified as 'problem drinkers'.

80% of non-drinkers are boring, bigoted and totally lacking in personality.  I am sure that statement is at at least as close to the truth as yours.

"Don't cry for me Thailand!" When the world normalizes I will be seeking a more rational place to live and abandoning my home of the last 15 years. There is just too much incompetence and anti-farang attitudes in the government.

I left Thailand after 20 years in 2018, went back to the UK, it hasn't been as "bad" as I thought it might be, although it was a big deal actually doing it.

But one can always drink at home or go to a restaurant. Don't have to go to brothels fronting as bars and packed with working girls unless one is in search of a bride and their search was interrupted by the virus.

You have mental issues. Bit same as religious folk. Dance to your own tune and live and let live. Actually pity your sad life.

Well, if half of these joints were to close down permanently it would be a good start, wouldn't?

This could have been to reduce the shakes (not to be confused with Parkinson). One shot and the shakes go away. It is not alcohol dependency either. More like medication.

"reduce the shakes"?? He was a brain surgeon <deleted>. Essential tremor is reduced by alcohol, but the effect reduces over the long term unfortunately.

If Boon Rawd brewery get it involved with this the bars will be allowed to open, another reason for bars opening is all the people in Pattaya queuing on the streets for food which the government and the local politicians don't seem to care about the bars need to open and get these people back to work so they can earn a living again

Thailand has had no new cases of Cv19 for 18 days. Doesn't that mean that Thailand only has Cv19 cases with people in hospital.

You should  inform the Department of disease control because their daily updates always shows new cases, Yesterday (13th) there was 5 !!

Ahh righto, so they are not classified as new cases then ?

When all the bar owners and staff cry out for help because they cannot keep their heads above water nobody in this government is listening . But when the big alcohol industry is starting to ask for it because now they also start to feel it in their well filled pockets , they start to listen ??? I pity all the workers in the business and owners of bars and such and i do hope people can get back to safe their businesses , but this is again a proof of how much pull the big money people have on dicisions the government(army) makes.

Yes they are counted in the tally

Why would they care?

Those sex-workers do not pay taxes and local politicians are merely mafia families pretending to give a stuff about anyone but themselves.

Not a bad idea.  It is time that the country moved past the embarrassment of brothels and purveyors of human flesh fronted by "bars". Thailand must move forward.

Merely mafia families! Love your in depth view.

I agree with you.  Look at Pattaya where they essentially are strangling those on walking street to bankruptcy.  You can go to Tesco Lotus with hundreds of people but not to a bar.  You can go to a restaurant and get a drink as of Monday but not to a bar.  I think they better be careful in what they wish for.  It might come true.  When a significant number of tourists who came to Thailand for the Night Life dont come and Expatriates move to other countries to enjoy the life they use to have in Thailand they will perhaps realize that what they hoped for had unintended consequences.

not my truth amigo, just stats online. btw if the ingestion of a drug is what constitutes the makeup of ones 'personality' that's a bad sign..

Pretty much how they operate and how the Thais describe them.

Not going to go into a long discourse of my thirty years experience of dealing with them on here.

A couple of interesting families are the Yubamrungs and the Kunplumes, especially Kamnan Poh, the 'Godfather of Chonburi'.

Good luck with your research.

welcome to voice your opinion but why? What do you achieve out of the "bar ban" going on for "a lot longer"?

Gov't trying to restablish country's image..getting away from the bar thing ...

I agree with you but unfortunately even if the bars are allowed to open

i don't see how most of them could earn some money without the tourists

and the tourists will probably not be allowed to come in Thailand before

the end of this year.

A very sad time,

Good luck with that

for most of the tourists the Thailand's image was

a country where you could have fun and it was cheap.

It's not cheap anymore since years, and now the fun is also gone

So with what country's image do you plan to attract tourists

from abroad on a very competitive international post covid market?
