Popular Post villageidiotY2K
Dear ladies and gent, Please hear out my problems. Basically, I'm not employed nor have close friends. I pretty much have nothing to look forward to everyday, and I've recently stopped drinking. Cuz alcohol seems to lower or numb the neurological stimulant in the brain whuch leads me to further sollow. I've heard sunbathing and exercises do help, so I frequent golf driving ranges every morning with some morning coffee and ciggy. But I feel I got nothing to do afterwards. It's getting to the point that's making me depressed and do not wish to see others outside. I feel I'm not ready to show my depressed faces, good thing it's not strange to wear masks these days. So how you my dear friends handle this? 3

Popular Post Lacessit
I'd suggest you find extra things to do. Do you have difficulty sleeping? That's one of the symptoms of depression. Seek medical help. You don't have to have friends in the flesh. Go on ThaiFriendly, and you will find thousands of Thai women who just want to chat online to improve their English. Of course, many do have other motives too. You can find hundreds of exercise programs on Youtube, from mild to brutal. If you have access to a swimming pool, that's good exercise too. Golf driving ranges are not exercise. You need to get out on the golf course for that. Not a bad way to meet people either. Make each day into an adventure. If you have a scooter, just go cruising. BTW, if you can give up smoking as well, your lung capacity and enjoyment of exercise will improve. Good luck. Popular Post AtlasAus
Hey mate, You have taken the first step. I am not a drinker or smoker thank goodness which makes things easier I think. I have read the same about alcohol, they will make you feel higher or lower depending on your situation. Of course the current environment we find ourselves in does not help one little bit. Not clear of your current 'living' situation so very hard to suggest some options. I am used to roaming, whether it be here, or back home in Aus. Being locked down had not been ideal, but I am with family and that is most important. We have food, a place to live and are doing ok. Have spent much of the last couple of months planning some road trips here in Thailand, my first o/nighter will be this week and when the weather settles a bit I am off a couple of week trip to the North (on my motorbike) and ride all the wonderful biker roads they have. Hopefully by then there could be some news on travel restrictions home sorted. Find something you like and have some fun. Walking, bicycle, scooter etc, get out and explore. Talk to people. Good luck. ????

Popular Post Damual Travesty
Yes, the sun is good, exercise is good, taking journey's even small ones to see something new is good. Stop smoking cigarettes will leave you feeling tons better. Take off your mask when you are outside and it would be appropriate to do so. Also people who have sex frequently live longer. 4

It is in my GF's interest to keep me alive as long as possible. She gets the 20%. However, the ATM shuts down when I die. 2

daveAustin
As is par for the course with these topics, unfortunately you will get the throwaway replies... i.e. folk nonchalantly passing off depression with boredom etc (any idea how spectacularly ill-informed you sound?). Not a great time, for sure. A lot of people are hurting. Even 'paradise' can be a lonely place. Of all the basics - exercise, sun & sea, good sleep, reading, not dwelling on news, eating properly, avoiding dehydration etc - would have to say being with people is key. The simple act of being near someone that is listening and swapping energy cannot be understated. The monster mind wants 100% attention 100% of the time. Don't let it. Observe it and talk to people.

Popular Post Kerryd
I to am unemployed (basically retired) and have no family or "close" friends. I've a few acquaintances and casual friends but for me that's fine. I used to party when I was on holidays but since I stopped working I don't drink as much or as often, but I haven't quit drinking (everything in moderation). I've got 3 bottles of whiskey in the cabinet right now and haven't had a drink in months (but the "shrine" gets a couple shots every other week or so) ! What I do find though is, time flies !! I go to bed almost every night thinking "didn't I just crawl out of here a couple hours ago" even though it was actually like 17 hours ago. A friend from back home sent me an email a couple days ago and it occurred to me that it had already been a year since I'd come back from my last trip home. I started trying to remember all the things I'd done in the last year that made it go by so quickly. I don't golf or actively socialize that much but I keep myself occupied most of the day which, in my case, usually starts at 5:00. I simply can't stay in bed much longer or I wake up with a sore back. Cup of coffee, check the emails, check the latest news stories, play a couple games online, water the plants, eat something for breakfast, have a shower - suddenly it's 8:00 ! (It's almost 8:00 already and I haven't done half the things I normally have done by now !) Read some more news (I do a lot of that), water the plants, wash the dishes, do laundry (couple times a week), sweep/mop the floors, take something out of the freezer to thaw - suddenly it's 12:00 and I'm wondering where the **** the last 7 hours have gone ! Depending on weather and need, maybe take the scooter and go shopping for groceries. Maybe get some noodle soup or Som Tam from a local vendor. Maybe read a book or watch a movie, type some informative posts on ThaiVisa - suddenly I notice it has gotten dark ! Close the screens (keep the bugs out), make/eat supper, clean up, put laundry away (if need be), play games on the computer/watch some TV/listen to some music - suddenly it's 22:00 and I remember I haven't set up the coffee maker for the morning or turned on the aircon in the bedroom or locked the front gate/front door ! Then it's off to bed and thinking that it feels like I got out of it. And that's on days when I have "nothing to do". And when I'm not doing my usually exercise routine in the mornings which usually kills almost 1 1/2 hours by itself. Mix in things like fixing a light switch or other minor home repairs, washing the motorcycles (when we don't have water restrictions), trips to Immigration, trips around the country. (I like to ride around the country visiting ancient historical sites. I usually make 3-4 short trips a year by myself. I also go on trips with some friends once in awhile. Maybe 1 day trips around the area, or 2 day trips to some place further away or week+ trips to places like Chiang Mai/Pai/Ban Jabo/Mae Sot. Plus an occasional trip to a "Bike Week" event somewhere in the country like Buriram or Khan Kaen.) Keeping the brain active is the key in my opinion. When you stop thinking, you start getting bored. Then you start thinking about other things which may not be healthy or productive. Think about something you have an interest in. Maybe it's History, or Music, or Art or Sports (or a sport in particular) or a hobby of some type. You are sitting in front of one of the greatest information tools in the history of mankind - use it ! Look up the the life story of Da Vinci or Pele or the oldest oil paintings in existence (it may surprise you where they think the oldest oil paintings are). Become a leading expert on the type of bugs people in SE Asia eat. H3ll - do some research, take some photos and make a book about it ! (Don't forget me in the credits !) What about fishing ? Sightseeing ? Bowling ? Tai Chi ? X-treme Skateboarding ? Plenty of activities to be found ! Golf isn't everything ! (I tried it - once. Sucked at it. Never golfed again.) I read a c-rapload of stuff everyday on a number of different subjects. I have a number of "interests" and quite often I will read an article pertaining to one of them, which leads to reading some reference material or visiting other sites and reading other articles and so on the point I realize my coffee cup is empty and I've spent 3 hours reading the history of some event that happened hundreds (or thousands) of years ago. For example. A couple weeks ago was the anniversary of D Day. I read an article on it (the anniversary, not the event itself) and saw a comment about how it was a mistake by Hitler that ended up allowing D-Day to succeed. That made me think. I then started doing some research on other events prior to the war, going back to before the Battle of Britain and trying to determine which of Hitler's many mistakes might have been the "key" one that lost the war for the Germans and had he not made that mistake, D-Day probably wouldn't have ever happened. Long story short - I ended up spending most of the day reading dozens of articles/wiki entries/excerpts during the day and it went by fast. And I've already read dozens of books and dozens of other articles about WW 2 over the years. But my brain was active and that keeps me from getting bored and wondering W.T.F. I'm doing here. I recently spent the better part of a day researching the history of slavery in the world and making note of how far back it went (in recorded history at least) and how wide spread it was - before "white men" were even a thing. I've spent even longer reading/researching the history of the Khmer empire. And on the history of the Great Wall. And on the "laws" of Hammurabi. I've also installed plastic mesh screening on the gate/fence which not only keeps the local cats out, but the cockroaches as well. I've wired in a new hot water heater (with a new inline circuit breaker), redid the grout in the bathroom, installed drain pipes to shunt water from the aircons so it doesn't make pools of water on the patio, connected layers of foam padding and plastic mesh to cover the tiles in the patio area where my exercise machines and equipment are, installed new video cards, sound cards and memory in my computers.I really don't have time to be bored ! I joke that it would be nice to get back to work so that I could take a break from my daily routine. Some people use their "down time" to do self improvement. Not just "exercise", but perhaps take some online study courses or learn a new language (doesn't have to be Thai). Research your family and ancestral heritage. Can you trace your family history back to the Vikings, or even the Romans ? Wait, your family came from where ? What is special about that place ? It was founded when ? Who lived there before ? Did you serve in the military ? What unit ? What's the history of that unit ? It's crest ? Battle Honours ? A battalion I was posted to in my old regiment had a battle honour (and even a Presidential Citation) for a battle during the Korean War. Of course I've read up on that (a few times). They have many other battle honours as well, dating back to the formation of the regiment during WW 1. (I could spend hours going on about their history and it's just over 100 years old !) (Ages ago, long before personal computers and the internet, my great-aunt researched her family tree. She uncovered a (grandparent or great-uncle I think it was) who died sometime after the American Civil War. He apparently had 2 sons who fought in the war and survived. Seems one fought for the North and one fought for the Confederates. In the old man's Will, he gave almost everything to the son that fought for the Confederates. To the son who fought for the North "I bequeath the sum of $2.00 to buy a rope with which to hang himself.")The key is to find something that interests you and then go for it. Glancing at my bookshelf beside me and I see a lot of paperback novels, travel books, books on ancient Angkor and Egypt, language books and even a biography written by an old friend. I've got books by Herodotus and Homer, George RR Martin and Clive Cussler, Dan Brown and Frederick Forsyth. Thai cookbooks and Harley Davidson repair manuals and parts catalogues. I have 3 books I'm currently reading (when I have time) and 7 more I haven't even cracked open yet (plus a couple I want to re-read). I won't bother mentioning the stacks of DVD movies on other shelves, gigabytes of movies on the computer, gigabytes of music (and stacks of CDs) and other things currently collecting dust around the house. Well - that has take way more of my time than I was originally anticipating ! I had to go refill my coffee cup and have my morning snack while typing this. (By now, most people will have given up reading this and typed a one or 2 word "pithy" response to it but who cares, it isn't about them, it's about me and I am AWESOME. And maybe a bit conceited. But hey, my head still fits in my helmet and through the door so it's not that bad !) Oh, and it's about you too (in case you forgot). I think that's what this was about wasn't it ? Hmmm, I'll have to think about that why I try to catch up on all the things that I've neglected while typing this. And for some strange reason, I have an urge to go look up some online references to Herodotus again. Something to do with an observation he made while in ancient Egypt a couple hundred years before "Christ". I have his "Histories" on the bookshelf - I could try scanning through it but I really need to get up into the crawl space above the bathroom and have a look at something so maybe I'll leave Herodotus on the shelf for now. Ug - not enough hours in the day ! Edited June 24, 2020 by Kerryd A bunch of stuff eh ! 3
Popular Post colinneil
OP you are bored why? There are many things you can do with your time. One suggestion, get a dog or 2, i did 2 years ago, now i would hate to be parted from them, so loyal/ loving, better than any human. Now my situation, stuck at home in my wheelchair, never get bored. In the last 5 years i have started cooking/ baking, always trying something new, last night i prepared/ cooked coconut prawns, with spiral potatoes, delicious. This morning i will be making peanut and coconut cookies. Never get time to be bored. 4
Wuvu2
Daily fitness highly recommended. Get yourself some earbuds so you can listen to music, then swim, use the gym or do whatever type of exercise that pleases you. It lifts the metabolism and energy level, takes up a good portion of your energy each day, exhausts you so you get better sleep, and exercise is a proven non chemical treatment for depression. It works. I've suffered depression on and off my entire life. Antidepressants never worked as well as disciplined daily exercise. It's easy to find an excuse, but regular exercise is the very best self management for depression. Google -it. There are many written resources recommending exercises as a self treatment for depression.
Guderian
Why can't the OP simply be glad that he's alive and (apparently) in reasonably good health? wolf81
I think you need to get some more hobbies. Some work can be good. Having some land to farm might be good. Personally I like computer programming, so that's what I do (whether paid for by clients or in my free time). You could also join some dancing club so you come into contact with other people. There are many possibilities.
