Pubs and bars in Thailand opening today - Ekkamai club shows off the New Normal

Daily News went to an upmarket club in the Ekkamai area of Bangkok where staff were busy preparing for the long awaited reopening of bars, clubs, karaoke and soapy massage in Thailand.

But with 22 regulations to follow the New Normal for patrons will not be what they were used to back months ago when the establishments closed during the first throes of the coronavirus pandemic.

Assama the manager of the Sherbet club, said that he was following the government's rules for reopening to the letter.

Tables at the club were socially distanced, there was frequent cleaning planned and the use of UV light.

Patrons would need to book a table to prevent overcrowding. They would need to enter via temperatures checks, complete the Thai Chana tracing app and pass through a disinfection tunnel.

Once inside there are partitions everywhere to keep patrons apart in small groups.

Assama said they would do all they can so they can reopen and start earning again.

Phase 5 of the release from lockdown begins today.

I know. It's ridiculous how many people seem to think that those things will somehow stop you from inhaling infected droplets exhaled by someone else.

Frik - just have someone blow some smoke at your face and you will instantly realize how useless those shields are. Because if you are smelling the smoke, then you are breathing it in.
The only difference is, if you are breathing in infected droplets, you won't even know it.

And those chairs in the 2nd picture look awfully close together. Once people are sitting in them I seriously doubt there'll be the "proper" spacing between them (not even close).

They appear to be in groups of 2 or 3 separated by screens to allow people who arrive together to sit together.  Squeeze a few girlies in the spaces between and will be just fine.

Not safe enough.  Need more distancing.

yes but more important is the breathing out from the person wearing it - they are spreading their breath all around - better not to wear anything than pretend it is some sort of protection - anyone comes near me wearing one of those I'll be telling them to politely ---- off and get a mask

all these rules for bars etc and yet the MRT have all but abandoned all rules today

If they are going to make rules they need to be sensible and apply to everyone everywhere otherwise people will just say ---- it

With drinking causing reduced judgement and reasoning plus the effects alcohol has on a healthy persons immune systems you can see now the effects of boozing in bars in the US. Unless you have complete crowd control (in a bar? impossible) all the plastic walls in the world won't prevent transmission. People don't drink through masks so the whole concept of 'safe bars' is based on filling the cash register, not preventing disease. I understand the businesses are hurting but causing a runaway infection rate is not the way to restart the economy - as proven in those states that are now shutting in the bars. People spent a lot of money getting their bars going again only to lose it all, again. How many times do you need to be kicked in the head to begin to realize you can't wish this away..

How do you cause a runaway infection rate in a country that claims it has no infections??

No diagnosed new infections , thats not to say that its still out there being undiagnosed

But in MRT they have to use a mask. Also you stay a far shorter time in an MRT. So really not a valid comparison. Only for moaners of course its a comparison.

Open the borders to everybody and no quarantine! Simples!

After 5 years, Pattaya can be combined with Detroit...ghost town.

Very strange how ignorant people are.

I do not see anybody here who calls out, who is responsible for all this

"NEW NORMAL"

China and the CCP cover up the story for 3 month!!!!!

And now we have all to live with the consequences.

Why nobody blames the CCP???? Are you all communists?

No.

And neither are they.

They're Totalitarian Capitalists.

that's about as enticing as having colon hydrotherapy !

I think the restaurants will win this one.

Just the disinfection tunnel would make me not go in.

no new cases for 37 days so that means that the people making the decisions must have been doing something good.

since their old decisions (that were equally trashed and ridiculed by many farang) did bring such a great result, it would make sense to start trusing and supporting the new rules of these same people.

i mean, isnt it getting embarrassing to be so negative all the time and to be proven wrong all the time?

It's nice to know there are people on TV that are more authoritative than the Lancet.

They should design new entertainment complexes

Where you can fondle the Karaoke girls with or get a massage something like a glove box.
