The tax on "foreign" alcohol is still to high ! despite the supposed free trade agreements within ASEAN just look at the price of Lao Beer or Aussie wine ( actually any wine ) to add insult to injury the stupid laws on small Thai independent brewers often force them to export their product and then re-import as "foreign" along with a high price ???? 8 1 2

Popular Post Enzian
No one wants to encourage drinking, but IMO Thailand should tax imported alcohol in line with practices in the rest of the world. The current rules smack of protectionism along with outright exploitation of the poor. Unless Thailand is just considered small potatoes, I don't understand why countries like France and Italy and the US don't make an issue of these import rates. 5

Deli
Immoral taxes on imported goods, where it doesn't make any sense. Local brews, wine and liquor just cannot compete with imports, so no damage to local business.

Pure protectionism, countries entering so called free trade agreements should insist no taxes to be levied on imported goods... in any name [luxury tax] as it is called at the moment.
