I have to get a new extension on my visa next month, was just wondering if there are any new regulations now... I have a retirement visa which was issued last year. Is health insurance needed for extension of stay??

Posted

did my renewal last month no insurance required but be aware they are now short of money in the imm  office so be warned so make sure you have all the papers you need.

"O" for retirement

just do your extension as normal,  you can do it 30 days before your current extension expires.  No insurance required for Non O

Ok thanks for the replies, can anyone confirm what papers are needed, just in case anything has changed.... thanks

Presuming your initial entry was on a Non-Imm O (ie not an O-A Visa), or you obtained one from immigration in country by converting from a TV or Visa Exempt, there is no insurance requirement.

Unsure how you qualified last year, if it was 800k on deposit or monthly transfers. If the former, you may have to show you kept the 400k available and have had 800k for 2 months. I suggest doing it early... and beware the end of this month.

Sorry to hijack the thread.... What is the difference between O and O-A?

Also can these types be extended again and again each year without having to leave Thailand? (as long as requirements are met).

A non-o visa allows a 90 day entry and can be obtained at many embassies and consulates or at a immigration office if you are on a visa exempt or tourist visa entry.

A Non-OA visa can only be applied for at a embassy or official Thai consulate in your home country or at one in a country you are a legal resident of. When issued they are are valid to use for entry for one year and allow unlimited one year entries. They require insurance when you apply and you can show financial proof that is in a bank in the country where you apply.

so what are the needed docs?

What financial proof are you using?

You will need a completed completed TM7 form with one 4 X 6 cm photo attached.

Copies of passport photo page, visa, last entry stamp and your most recent extension of stay stamp and TM6 departure card.

Some office will want a copy of every page of your passport that has visa or stamp for Thailand.

Proof of residence may also be needed.

I was not referring to a TM30 report. That is no longer required unless you change addresses.

Proof of residence is often a copy of a rental agreement with signed copies of the owner's house book and ID card.

In addition at CW from personal experience: of course the Bank letter (bai rab rong) stating that account xxx is yours with balance (sometimes they also ask for a print of transactions in the previous two months), map of your apartment/home/whatever (some IOs insist on a hand-drawn map, others take a google maps print-out/business card). If you rent an apartment you do not need to show proof of this (at least I have never been asked for this but have a copy of the rental contract with me just in case). Make copies of all the pages in your passport with a visa/stamp as indicated by Ubon Joe, last year they asked me for that (but then she went to photocopy them herself, guess my necktie worked again). Some IOs also ask for a copy of the most recent 90 day report. Note that this list specifically applies to CW and other places may have different paperwork.

Not TM30, but as you say proof of residence.. Does that have to be re submitted on a yearly basis even if i am the same residence?

Many offices require it every year prove you live at the same address.

I have to give them that every year when I apply for an extension.

Some offices may not want it but many do.

Your initial visa was probably a Non-immigrant O. No insurance needed.

Do you have a rental contract or not? A copy of it will suffice in combination with a copy of the owners housebook and ID-card.

If your initial visa was an O-A, you need a mandatory health insurance when applying for a 1 year extension.

HELL YES ! ! !

i just renewed mine 2 weeks ago.

You NEED both in-patient AND out-patient, and you MUST bring the original documents with you to immigration

If you need a company, let me know.  I use Luma Health for in-patient and LMG for my out-patient

I am a bit confused on the bank letters. I do the monthly deposit method, and last year I only recall having to provide the bank letter showing the monthly deposits and also a copy of my bank book. Do I also have to provide a bank letter stating the account is in my name only?
