The travel bubble plan, which would allow small groups of foreign tourists to visit Thailand, should be shelved for at least another six months, because of the high-risk of COVID-19 infection, said Associate Professor Dr. Thira Woratanarat of the Faculty of Medical Science of Chulalongkorn University.

In his Facebook post today (Tuesday), he said that the global COVID-19 situation remains of serious concern, as new infections in several countries are still surging, with more than 200,000 new cases in the past 24 hours and total infections worldwide expected to pass 15 million tomorrow.

As far as Thailand is concerned, he said that internal and external risks are on the rise, citing the 5th phase of the easing of lockdown restrictions, the results of which are expected in 2-6 weeks.

Isn’t the idea of a travel bubble to group together Countries where it isn’t “Still surging” in an attempt to try and move things forwards?

What the <deleted> that got to do with allowing foreign visitors in?

Yes, Taiwan, Vietnam etc. This is ridiculous.

They simply do not know what to do.

No matter when, be it next week or 6 months or 6 years, the virus will travel with any group that comes into the kingdom.

The odds of it coming in from places like Taiwan and Vietnam, etc are tremendously low. They have terrified themselves with their own fearmongering and desire to maintain a clean sheet.

That's into next year, it's going to be interesting to watch this play out....

Your business in difficulty or failing?

Sorry, but the health of the country it seems is a priority.  As it should be.

Another well-reasoned, competent and obviously very important warning from the world's medical elite.

But why? And how many? really want to vacation in Thailand from "places like Taiwan and Vietnam?"  How many Thais want to go to Taiwan and Vietnam?

Same climate, very similar culture, etc.  Just as well go to the next town over.

You have to restart travel at some point in some way. Do it with places that have things under control as a starting point and develop a system and methodology to keep infections to a minimum. Once that is successfully done you can slowly expand the nations involved. Otherwise, it won't be waiting for 6 months; the borders will be shut until the epidemic is over whenever that might be.

He should just be honest and say

"We don't have a clue, and we will stall until there is a vaccine".

It is more than that however ... it is about power.  Everyone you read about here -- talking about keeping the borders locked down -- continues to earn a paycheck regardless of the countries woes.

I have posted this before: Thai people are convinced that the government is doing the right thing by keeping the borders closed.  "We don't have Covid here".

But it is not just Thailand; Philippines is experiencing the same thing.

Authoritarian government + global pandemic = borders closed

A hard decision.  Keep things as theyare and continue the financial pain or take the chance of letting a easily transmitted virus in.  Better to be safe then sorry I suppose.

Individual perspectives will vary, according to how directly a person or organization is affected by the absence of tourists; but this phenomenon will invariably effect the wider economy and a growing number of people as a result, the longer it drags on.

I am sure there are exceptions to this rule, but I would hazard to guess that most TV observers/posters, are somewhat insulated from the direct economic effects of the economic turn down, at least for the moment. Many having retired here, with reasonable pensions and money in the bank. Of course it's a pain in the ass, that you can't travel freely, but it's a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things.

For those working in the hospitality sector (hotels, restaurants, bars etc.), or small business who provide peripheral service and support to that sector, things are extremely dire indeed. On its face, 'sorry, but the health of the country it seems is a priority. As it should be' seems like a fairly reasonable statement, but a little simplistic don't you think; 'your business in difficulty or failing' is simply a petulant statement, which exposes the posters ignorance of just how badly many of those who are not ensconced in private villa complexes, are affected by the current situation. Have you considered the bigger picture at all?

This virus is not going away, we can expect it to wash back and forth in waves, probably for years to come. The issue of whether an effective vaccine can be produced is a whole other conversation, but not something (in my humble opinion) which should be relied on. Individuals worldwide, must accept an increased level of risk/mortality associated with this virus, taking whatever precautions they feel appropriate, allow their economies to reopen, and adjust their perspectives accordingly. If they don't, what awaits us, is I fear, far worse that most people can imagine (for the time being at least).

Most of us probably expected a return to some degree of normality, albeit protracted in nature. Not only is it not happening in Thailand, but reports from major cities worldwide indicate no return to normality. There is always a calm before the storm, and that's how it feels at the moment. The onset of the virus was something akin to weathering the initial pass of a Category 2 Hurricane, now we're in the eye of the storm, for the most part we have relative calm, but if effective measures are not taken to resume normal business soon, what awaits us as we exit that eye, will be a monster Category 5 economic experience, which few, if any of us, are truly prepared for; mark my words.

From what I can see more Thai people are beginning to worry the ones who where able to ride the storm at first, Im sure many people had their finance deferred on their cars for 6 months people who I know that will stop in October hoping it would sort it's self out bye now, I dont think it's going to happen they might need another 6 months will the finance companies give them more time? who knows Im sure they dont want a load of reprocessed cars on their hands with no buyers.

The whole world is facing financial meltdown this Autumn.

Jobs are gone forever, rent can't be paid, mortgage can't be repaid.

I'm quite keen for a trip to Vietnam or Cambodia.

I enjoy both countries.

A good evidence-based decision would be to include those of us on retirement extension of stay 1 year visa to return to Thailand, do a 2 week quarantine as with those who have marriage extension of stay.

This clown should better stay in his lab and find a medicine or vaccine instead of creating mass hysteria and hijacking people in and outside Thailand .

Its a basic human right to be free to travel. Another clown from the circus yesterday said that the economy was secondary, of course get out the middle class and make people dependent its that much easier to install a dictature similar to north Korea or Venezuela

These guys are smart but out of touch with reality meaning book smart but socially dumb because they live in a black hole that black hole is they feel no affects since they basically work for the government and don't have to worry about where their next pay check comes from cut that off and they feel the pain like the common person and the tune will also change. This also goes for guys like Dr. Faci in the States he knows what he is talking about but it begins with science and end with science because the money just keeps rolling in.
