Water pressure too high?!?

Featured Replies

Everyone is familiar with low or no water at the end of dry season...however I am wondering what is the typical (or nominal if such thing exists) pressure range that the PWA mains system should actually have - anybody knows?

When water supply is normal, without issue, I have a pressure about 4.5-5 bar at water meter, and this  sure is higher that what is 'typical' in my home country. I feel this is probably higher than in most parts of Pattaya, probably because of location (near the beach, bottom of pratamnak hill)

Actually, couple of weeks ago I had an issue caused by the high pressure - a blue pipe dead-end cap popped and water started to come out at

5bar in my (outdoor) kitchen!!! I was very lucky to be at home, as could turn of water right away and dry the cabinets, resulting to only

non-visible damages to chipboard frames of the cabinets. The blue pipe part was 13.5 bar type, so obviously it had a quality problem as it popped at 5bar. Quite some blue pipe inside concrete through the house, installed by Thai professionals, so somewhat worried where pipe will burst next time...

I range from zero (don't ask!) to 40 psi, usually sits between 12-30 psi. (0.8-2.0 bar), so yes yours is high.

Never thought there was a nominal, certainly not at the meters.

You are saying a dead end popped, does that mean an end plug came off?

In that case it is not the pipe that failed,it is the glue,or the lack of workmanship.

The end plug can be hammered by the water and thus receive a lot of pressure.

In the end a weak joint will determine the strength of your system, like a chain more or less.

no, the cap stayed glued to the pipe, but a piece of plastic cracked off from the cap to let water come out i.e the actual PVC cracked not the glue!

actually a piece of pipe have installed myself as pressure buffer far drinking water, and no hard pressure hits for this part normally as is dead end with air. just bad quality plastic molding I guess

Perhaps you need a regulator or pressure reducer, just after the meter.
