Travel agent predicts tourists will return as soon as Covid-19 ends

Social Plus System, which runs a Thai-language travel website (เกาะ-เสม็ด.com/), believes that tourists will return to Thailand once the Covid-19 crisis is resolved.

Karn Tantichavalit, the company’s managing director, said 62 per cent of those who visit Thailand are return tourists, while only 20 per cent are first-time visitors.

He also said that Koh Samet was the most preferred destination for more than 80 per cent of local travellers because it is easy to get to.

Karn added that most locals will prefer to travel within the country instead of going overseas after international skies open due to their concerns about Covid-19.

He also predicted that 70-per-cent more revenue will be generated in the tourism sector this year if the crisis is completely resolved, adding that though the tourism sector has been hit severely by the outbreak, it has also helped natural attractions recover.

Yeah and pigs will fly as long as the stupid rules are kept in place to allow travel into Thailand. I am 73 and $100,000 of health insurance would cost 124,000 baht plus 30,000 baht minimum for 2 week

Wow this person must be a fortune teller with that prediction. But then again with that statement his credibility is questionable. I guess he must be after a job at the TAT.

What do you expect? What would happen if you have a heart attack and have to go into a hospital. A few days, an operation or two, and that cost real money. Do you have that money ready? And if no

It's easy to understand that you want to come here. But look at it from the Thai point of view. What is the advantage for Thailand to let you in without insurance and maybe without quarantine?

What does it mean exactly that covid 19 ends?

Zero new case worldwide?

I guess we should all trust Trump.

It will go away - eventually.

In theory he will be right - eventually.

But covid never existed in Thailand and domestic tourists + wealthy private plane owners will make up for everything! This guy is not well informed...

By that time people will have found cheaper and better destinations closer to them. Many still come to Thailand based on a memory, update experiences from nearby and why bother.

There won't be going to the Philippines or Vietnam for a while either. Closer destinations are very likely, Athens is a possibility for me soon.

Where do you go for holiday?

To places which you know and you like(d)?

Or to new places which might be interesting?

Obviously it's nice to discover new places. But I am sure many will remember their good times in Thailand and return - eventually.

  • Popular Post

Well I predict that the whole world is going to have huge problems getting back to work . Of course people will take holidays, but closer to home.

These people are absolute colossal roasters....

I suppose you are not a tourist, because if you were you would do the same reasoning as you answered.

73yo, uk going to thai, two weeks, 100k cover, covers covid 19.  $130-150.

select $5k deductible since you already have good insurance, you just need one that covers covid19 for the paperwork exercise.  $78-92.

I am not a tourist in Thailand but sometimes I am a tourist in other countries.

Obviously from the point of view of tourists, me included, it's nice when everything is easy. Visa on arrival, stay for a long time, no conditions, perfect.

But I don't blame countries when they think about what they want and if they have certain conditions. I.e. the health insurance. We read often enough about people who can't pay their hospital bills. And GoFundMe requests for paying hospital bills. Hospitals are often expensive and they want to get paid for their services. Who pays?

Every tourist has the choice to think where he wants to go on holiday, compare visa regulations, etc. Select the country which is suitable for you.

And in case you live here then you are not really a tourist so you should have a visa to live here long term.

And last but not least: Thailand is easy compared to many other countries. Let a Thai person apply for a visa to Europe or the USA, etc. That is a lot more difficult and often impossible because "back home" governments make it clear who they want and who they don't want.

The question is now which is the most convenient country to go on vacation, now the Thai government has changed its policy and wants to decide here can come on vacation in the country and who is not authorized will be very difficult to return to having 30 M. of annual tourists . Because any additional expenses will be seen by the average tourist as a penalty.
The world has changed and will never return as before even when there is a vaccine, the cost of airline tickets will increase due to the bankruptcy of many companies and the tourist will look close to home.

And probably many of us expatriates should return to the neighboring countries for a vacation.

After the xenophobia, ridiculous visa requirements,

having the blame put on us for Covid,

and generally having been taken for mugs by the Thais for many years,

I predict many will shy away from Asia altogether, and opt for English speaking countries to travel.

As an Australian, i would even find U.S.A

(probably Florida) a nice change from the

BS of Thailand.

No silly face issues and having to walk on eggshells, nice climate like Thailand,

cost of living arguably better than my own country, probably a more straight forward visa system..

and หell, they wouldnt even know you are a dreaded foriegner until you open your mouth!

As for Covid, places like Florida will probably reach herd immunity before long

and I gotta admit i do admire their party attitude and refusal to be scared into having no life

and cowering in fear, like the rest of the world.

I cant see that happening anytime soon!

I got an e-mail from Thai airways this morning, saying my flight for September 15 (L.H.R.-BKK return) is cancelled.....I wasnt expecting it to fly anyway!

Returning tourists? What is he on about? You’re only supposed to go to Thailand once. Once in a lifetime.
