'Do you really need to party?' WHO asks world's youth

GENEVA (Reuters) - Young people must curb their party instincts to help prevent new outbreaks of the COVID-19 disease, officials at the World Health Organization (WHO) pleaded on Wednesday.

Tired of lockdowns and eager to enjoy the northern hemisphere summer, young people in some countries have been contributing to resurgences by gathering again for parties, barbecues and holidays.

Even in Geneva, where the global U.N. health body is based, cabarets and clubs were closed last week after evidence that nearly half of new cases were coming from there.

"Younger people also need to take on board that they have a responsibility," said WHO emergencies chief and father-of-three Mike Ryan in an online discussion. "Ask yourself the question: do I really need to go to that party?"

Young people are less likely to suffer a severe form of the respiratory disease than their parents or grandparents, but the proportion of those infected aged 15-24 has risen three-fold in about five months, WHO data shows.

Ryan said young people were often reticent in giving their details or disclosing friends' names to contact tracers. "It's tough but it is what is needed to stop the virus," he said.

Swiss newspapers said that in one night club in Zurich from which cases emerged recently, partygoers had given fake names including "Donald Duck".

As well as reducing risks to others, WHO epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove said young people should be careful as even a mild version of the disease might have long-term consequences.

Looking at the world today it should not be too difficult for the young people to see what the older generations f$#$# up over the last decades and centuries.

The world is anyhow going down the drain and life for the now young people will be likely difficult when they are older.

Having that in mind I think it's not too difficult to understand when they want to have some fun in their life.

Is there behavior responsible? No.

Was the behavior from all the older generations always responsible? No

Nobody should be surprised that the young act now like the former young acted 50 years ago.

Please, I didn't mess up anything, nobody asked my opinion.

The old rich folk who own the world are the ones to blame.

The corporations and governments bought and owned by the old rich people are also to blame.

Try placing the blame on the people who caused the mess, not the majority of innocent bystanders without the influence to play any part in the game.

In part you are right.

But at least in the democracies in this world voters could have voted for better politicians all over the world.

'They' (the people that own everything) never put up 'any better politicians' we could vote for.

Trump Vs Hillary .............. May Vs Corbyn ............... that's the problem, not the solution.

It's a stacked deck right from the start, the only way to stop them is by French/Russian revolution methods.

Kill them all, and their entire families, and their children, and the people they went to school with, their bankers and lawyers, start again with all the old power wiped out. If you let any of their relatives or friends survive, it will all start again. (was that too extreme?)

It WAS extreme......................

But probably accurate  -  and certainly effective.

Do you really think Thailand has no idiots ?

Your government understood this very well and were sh!tting themselves about Songkran. They didn't trust the masses not to act like the idiots (and they are idiots) that you referred to in other countries. It was even necessary to have provincial bans on alcohol sales because the authorities knew that booze and Thais together do make a good recipe for the "everyone helping together".

I wouldn't preach too much about how great the Thais are compared to the rest of the world. Thailand was lucky to escape with very few cases of CV19 and the government (unlike many others) acted swiftly and decisively to control the spread....... the Lumpini boxing debacle showed what the Thais could have been capable of if there had been greater incidence of infection.

And then there are people asking why in the world UK has such a big problem with cases and death out of the covid pandemic.

Words are too weak. Let´s just look at the picture above, and all will stand clear for the masses. Morons!

While I understand the sentiment, you ask many (not all I know) teenagers that question and they will look at you like you’re insane.

Yes, Songkran was postponed and alcohol was banned and other measures were put in place like curfews and many other things .

The difference is that Thais adhered to those measures and acted sensibly .

Whilst Thailand does indeed have some idiots , its just that in Western Countries, the idiots outnumber the non idiots

People are inherently social so it is crazy to think you can keep them isolated for so long. When talking about the youth i imagine teens to 20's. At that age their hormones are raging to a point to where they can barely keep their socks on. There is a definitive line between selfish and realistic

Yes, they all fight with each other and who wins the fight ?

Corvid 19 wins

temporary chemical castration would definitely have benefits in the short term... bromide was used on the troops. Given all the STD sgoing around, not that effective I suppose!

You're talking about the West?

There's young people in other parts of the world, eg in Thailand.

WHO killed about 10x the deaths from corona already indirectly. Yes we do need to party and we will, because there is no reason not to and its more likely to die from alcohol poisoning.

Because it was in IT!

Half of all people have below average IQs.  How do you expect them to get laid unless their victims are wasted? ????

The WHO has no credibility and can't be trusted to recommend advise!

Feb 3,2020 .Did you really need to recommend! -

"on Monday there was no need for measures that “unnecessarily interfere with international travel and trade” in trying to halt the spread of a coronavirus that has killed 361 people in China".

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-health-who/who-chief-says-widespread-travel-bans-not-needed-to-beat-china-virus-idUSKBN1ZX1H3

Three hundred and sixty one, grew to over 700k world wide. Many deaths are  because of your recommendations.
