It's also a convenient base to explore the hill area and the Mekong river. Excellent main roads north and south. Restaurants along the lakeside are very popular. Pattaya could learn a lot from Phayao to it's benefit. Maybe Pattaya prefers the higher spending international tourists?

Don't know about Pattaya so much these days..but Jomtien is very busy every weekend with Thai tourists, yesterday busy all the way along to the 2 restaurants at the south end "Bpoo Ben" was doing good trade "Loong Sawai" about half as busy but I think maybe they relied more on those large Thai disco tour buses. Photo from last year before all the WuFlu nonsense.

A lot of girls in the beer bars were freelancing, in the guise of being paid staff, before the virus. They can leave whenever they want. Most were on the apps also. If a girl refused to go with you because you were not prepared to pay a bar fine, finish your drink, go to a nearby bar, message her on an app, and she will be there in 5 mins. Yes, a ridiculous situation.

The OP is Sabai Lodge. lot of great memories of staying at sabai lodge over the years....it was a great location on soi 2 as many baht buses turned from second road down soi 2 to beach road so very easy to get around...a decent beach area was a short walk one direction and big C and movies etc short walk the other way....for walkers it was great to have areas up past dusit to wong amat with nice shade and not that much traffic.. big variety of rooms from basic to the dolphin poolside rooms....adequate restaurant, several pools with good amount of shade...generally pleasant front desk staff and maids and other staff...laundry and lots of massage shops along along soi 2... few years back there were also a lot more good beer bars in area but those have mostly disappeared as the entire soi 1,2,3, 4 area has been turned into l more hotels and condos...i remember when soi 1 had ten or so old abandoned houses that once upon a time must have been some pretty nice second homes for bkk rich...not sure why so many seemed abandoned but now all gone.. thanks for the memories sabaii lodge.... operator
Well done pomchop, couldn't have summed it better. Happy days, especially with all the bars in the general area of soi1 and soi2 now all sadly gone.

operator
Looked at the Sabi Group website. Sabai Lodge Pattaya is temporarily closed from 03 April - 23 December 2020. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel from 24 December 2020. If Sabi Lodge is going to be demolished and will no longer be available within the Sabi Group why not say so. If that is current pic looks to me like the front desk/lobby area is still standing and they only tore down one low rise section and pool? Also is that the restaurant building still standing on right side of pic? shdmn
I doubt that original wing stays just due to basic economics. Look at all the new surrounding buildings. All the result of single or low level buildings being torn down. That land is just too valuable for anything else now. A little google research on macro economics in a modern changing world order would be interesting for you. Movement of money from Sovereign Funds to buy assets in some else's country is classic strategic thinking. The paper below is a good read. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/223864678_Why_do_Chinese_Firms_Tend_to_Acquire_Strategic_Assets_in_International_Expansion How can they be assets if there is the reported over stock of empty condos, hotels and malls? Back on topic, I stayed there (Sabai lodge) on my first visit to Pattaya. Nice big pool and gardens as reported, Central marina up the soi. Getting a bit shabby now and a huge footprint, so not surprised at its demise, but a little sad/nostalgic.....
