The chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Pol Lt-General Pakkapong Pongpetra, on Thursday (August 6) took sole responsibility for the deadly shootout in a Yannawa gambling den on August 3 that left four people, including a police inspector from Samaedam Police Station, dead.

“Metropolitan police are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to get to the bottom of the case as well as to identify the owner of the gambling den,” he said. “This case does not involve the National Police chief or the prime minister, it is the sole responsibility of the Metropolitan Police Bureau.”

Pakkapong added that after the incident in Thungmahamek district, he had ordered the transfer of five senior police officers from Thungmahamek Police Station to the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s Operations Centre. “This is a standard procedure in investigating a case in which local officers could be involved,” he added. “If the investigation proves that there are officers involved in the case, they will be prosecuted immediately.”

“Police are now investigating three main factors: the gambling, the destruction of evidence on the day of the shooting, and the murder of victims, which could take a long time to complete,” the Metropolitan police chief said.

“Investigating officers are working impartially and in a straightforward manner. If the public has any additional clues or evidence pertaining to the case, please bring them to the police.”

Meanwhile, a man called “Boy Ban Krua” reportedly surrendered to police and confessed to shooting dead a 61-year-old man. He claimed that the man had shot three other people, including the police officer, at the gambling den. The number of shooters involved in the Monday night incident is still under investigation.

Good line of defense there, I took the gun off the old man to stop him shooting more people, so I shot him, honest!

So there was at least 2 people carrying a weapon at this small casino ? They have crackdowns on everything else, maybe one day they will crack down on all the weapons being carried around. Of course, it will probably only last one day.

Probably years!

They need to allow at least 8 years for "new" witnesses to come forward.

I hope he enjoys his retirement...

Wow thats a first, taking sole responsibility.

Not too worry Pakkapong, maybe in 8 years time new witnesses will appear and clear police of any wrong doing.????????

Will that include a psychiatrist explaining that due to stress, his patient's 'temporary' need to confess to things he wasn't responsible for?

You see, you could make this stuff up.

Hence I will be suing the old man for two broken fingers.
