Thanks, moderators, for letting this stand. Anzac Day is important to a number of expats in Thailand, and elsewhere.

Said to be the day Australia lost its innocence, and became a nation, Anzac Day also reminds of the importance of mateship, honour, equality and - yes - the deep sentiment that lies just beneath the sun-toughened Aussie skin.

If you're too young to have heard of these events, get a copy of the the film, "Gallipoli", by one of Australia's many excellent directors, Peter Weir.

Lest we forget :o .

A bit late, but if this song does not make you cry you are not an Aussie...

Well, it was too big for the forum to upload but the song I tried to upload was the John Williamson song "And the band played Waltzing Matilda"

Check it out.

A mate told me a story about his dad who was in Egypt in 1940.

He was in a bar with a fellow Aussie soldier, low ranking.

Two British officers walked in an demanded a salute and the Aussies weren't in for it.

The officers then decided to be friendly to the two backward colonials and asked them where they had last been stationed.

They replied: "Singapore."

One of the pommy officers said, "Singapore, good old Singapore. I had my first f*** in Singapore."

One of the Aussie lads said, "Oh yeah, who f***** you mate?"

Australia: 50,000 dead WW1, 60.000 dead WW2. Our trans-Tasman cousins suffered even more per head of population.
