If you're a foreign blogger in Thailand you need to be very selective in the material you present and aware of who you might upset, what's the name of that guy, Andrew something. OK, I understand the motivation, it produces extra income. Personally, I just keep my head down and my mouth shut. Luckily, I have a pension of sorts and a reasonable lifestyle, and I don't want to jeapordize that. If I wanted to be a social justice warrior I'd do it back home, not here - not my country, and as a guest I understand that it would be impertinent. Thailand for the Thais, as they say. At the end of the day I don't like it I can leave.

The guy you are thinking about is Andrew Macreggor Marshall.

He's actually a pretty decent journalist, if a little obsessed and narcissistic.

But he was basically driven out of Thailand since he was about to be banged up under 112. He's continued his attacks, which made him an official enemy of the State.

I just watched his latest interview on TRT regarding the ongoing protests, which for a guy now living in Edinburgh was pretty insightful

If you go to Safari world / a national park / Siam Sea Life etc with your family and pay Double or more than your Thai Wife, its because there were not enough people Like Richard Barrow publicising such wrongs 10 years ago.

Why should you care?... Wouldn’t you like to own your own house etc, receive better rights in Thailand?

Not have to put up with the banal hoop jumping for Visas etc? 90 day reports?

I have no problem with paying more for services that my host government subsidizes for citizens when I'm not a citizen and pay no Thai taxes.

I don't "own" my own house, but my name is on the deed to the house and land (16 rai) that my wife owns. She cannot sell it without my permission, and if she died, her heirs could not force me off the land as long as I maintained a valid visa.

I have no problem with the current visa rules and 90-day reports, even though about a year ago, because I had a OA-visa, I had to leave the country to get an O-visa.

I've lived in Thailand for over 20 years now, and appreciate their hospitality and acceptance of me, and I am especially appreciative of the way they've handled the COVID-19 crisis.

I intend to live here the rest of my life with or without Richard Barrow (who, I'd never heard of before this posting on ThaiVisa).

he was asking the world, that's how social media works, sunshine.

Not correct.  He was asking his followers.

How is the world going to know if they don't follow him?

Get a grip.

is this normal that Immigration calls you to speak about their decision?

no, but then again, he was always one to embellish the truth.

Good news today. Immigration has extended my stay by one more year. I wish to thank everyone who sent me messages of support which helped with my case. I wish to also thank Samut Prakan Immigration who were very supportive. I can now continue promoting Thailand around the world.

I want to make it very clear that it had nothing to do with my activities on social media. I work for a small company that contracts me out to work at the school. Although the paperwork was passed by my local Immigration, officials in Bangkok have stricter criteria.

There are many foreigners who face similar problems as me every year. Even people married and with a family. Many of us never know when we submit our application whether we will pass or not. It is a nerve wracking experience. Even more so lately. They seem to be stricter now.

YOU have no problems with paying 10x more for entry into a National Park. But 100’s of thousands of foreigners do.

They also have objections to Dual Pricing in private establishments where tax cannot be used in an attempt to justify this distasteful behaviour.

You don’t care about having to submit a 90 day report? Really? don’t care at all ???? Wouldn’t it be easier for you not to have to do it?  the 90 day report is not a major issue, but its still unnecessary. If someones going to take up an issue against that, I’ll support them and thank them for it.

I also have lived in Thailand for over 20 years. Thailand has not offered me hospitality. I have simply been offered the same degree of indifference to which they treat each other. Thailand has offered me less hospitality than my Wife, who, had we lived in the UK would be a British Citizen by now with full rights.

So.. Don’t try to dress up a basic level of acceptance and tolerance of hoop jumping as if we are being ‘treated with a great degree of hospitality’.... its not.

That said, I accept the hoops I have to jump through to stay here. But I would prefer not to have to do so.

Not having heard of Richard Barrow just means you may have not paid as much attention to media around as others.

I’ve not followed RB, but have heard of him, as I’ve heard of Andrew Drummond, Andrew Hall, Jonathan Head.... and many other reporters and bloggers, I’d heard of Trink, Stickman, stickboy.... too...  its difficult not to have heard of many of these people if you have half an ear to the ground.

Still in love ?

of course he got his visa as it was so clear from the start and as every year !

he also clearly knows it and little boy just wants some attention.

so funny that people can see nothing clearly, maybe the same who do not see the next amnesty extension coming...

Yh it's weird how there's zero noise about the possibility on these forums. Loads of agent noise but zero need that this amnesty could very well be extended given there is no change of note as yet. Real suppression specialists these forums and selected FB groups.

Barrow needs to get vocal and get some answers on an amnesty extension. If this guy wants to turn the tide then he needs to push support for a further amnesty. Yes Richard we know you do not need this one but a lot of heads are on amnesty and used all non O + extension so of you are not the self serving tosser you appear to be. Prove it and barrage the digital world with the questions we need desperately.

RB: a little bit on the "drama queen" side, don't you think?

Last week:"IOs came to my office, very unlikely I'll get my extension, I'll have to leave Thailand"
This week: "I got it and I will be able to promote Thailand"

Trying to make some noise ????

Is it just about ego or something more serious?

It’s just called attention seeking only its something you would expect off of a 21 year old not a 50 something odd year Old man.

So he got his extension and was just attention whoring once again. I wonder if he wants to make this stunt a regular thing, considering it's already the second time.

His work situation does come across as a little odd though. As per his post, he works for a small company that sends him to a school to look after computers there.

Just like any drunk farang in Pattaya this guy is representative of all farang and you will all pay of you do not stand up to this Twitter warrior NOW.

Well Thanks for that then.

Maybe you can do a head start, head over to Sanook or some Thai cyber sites, rouse and stoke that indignation, that seething anger. Rile them up even more, (over Richard Barrow  ) get a posse going, divy up the axe handles and baseball bats!

And what fun :whistling:

If you have lived here for 20 years you could be a Thai citizen, like you wife a British one- but you have either been to lazy or to entitled to have bothered to follow the process.
