webfact
Virologist hopes Thailand can hit 100 days without Covid-19 cases By The Nation Dr Yong Poovorawan, an expert virologist at Chulalongkorn University In a Facebook post on Monday (August 17), Dr Yong Poovorawan, an expert virologist at Chulalongkorn University said he hopes Thailand will be able to hit the 100-day Covid-free mark. He said both China and Hong Kong were hit by a second wave of infections even though no rallies were held, while Vietnam encountered a second wave despite being free of Covid-19 cases for 99 days. “New Zealand is also facing a second wave even after being free of Covid-19 cases for 102 days. So, will Thailand be free of Covid-19 for 100 days?” he asked. He also said that respiratory diseases usually surface during the July to October rainy season every year because the virus flourishes in cool, humid weather. “Also, social distancing has become more difficult due to political rallies and schools reopening fully, which is resulting in more young people getting respiratory infections,” he said. “Hence, patients with respiratory complaints need to be tested for Covid-19 because there are many patients who don’t show symptoms.” He also said that the length of time Thailand remains free of Covid-19 will depend on everybody keeping their hands clean with alcohol gel, wearing face masks and practising social distancing. RubbaJohnny
In a nation where rural funerals are a big event, tontines , gambling, wills 3 days of feasting locally hereabouts it'd be hard to cover up a large excess number of deaths even were bodies to be incnenerated at hospitals for hygiene, Much like births, new homes and marriages a good funeral is a day out in the sticks, once the monks do the biz (for a fee of course) merit made then its vaste pots of spicy slurp the Chang cracks and by dusk the cards, Lao Khao and Yadong come out , flashing lights and all sorts of "entertainment" lucky ones may commune with the green man before the final VIP trip In addition to teh casket sino thais deck out their coffins with paper rolexes, A cardboard Benz , a colorful pantomime in teh land of dreams where your own misfortunes are your responsibility due to poor karma mechanics in previous incarnations. QED. Most rural folk pay into a village insurance plus the real insurance companies would know the level of excess deaths. My own verdict on a K Phet wake, a great night out... Because many patients don,t show symptoms. Get a grip.

Popular Post Jingthing
Zero cases of local infection in the middle of a global pandemic is quite simply unbelievable. Even gold standard of zero cases freaking New Zealand for Christchurch's which are islands has had an outbreak. Also keep in mind that Thailand is not an island and land border security is far from perfect. I would believe low cases. But not no cases.

There appears to have been an increase in reported deaths, but without testing who knows what may have contributed to the deaths, especially with poor health services in many regions

DrTuner
'He also said that the length of time Thailand remains free of Covid-19 will depend on everybody keeping their hands clean with alcohol gel, wearing face masks and practising social distancing.' I came back from Koh Samet after a few days there (nice, zero Chinese, just Thais and very few farangs). Only a few service staff bothered with masks, everyone else took a look around after arriving at the hotel and went pffft, off with the masks. Same as pre-covid. The picture of obedient peoples doing their ThaiChana, masks and hand washing is just propaganda for the outside world. 1

The virus doesn’t care if tests are done or not. Even if no testings at all are done, some, not all, infected people will end up in hospital, or die. Luckily no one has been hospitalized with the virus in the last 80 days, with or without testing. 1

If they annoy the Chinese government just watch how quickly it somehow comes back. Like in Melbourne for example. The Chinese government threatened Australia with retaliation for demanding an investigation into the origins of the virus. Within weeks there was a new sustained outbreak. I haven't looked into the NZ situation, not yet anyway. China has made threats against various countries in recent months. samsensam
excellent news, well done everyone! just one small question, for clarification, this claim is based on how many tests having been carried out? the uk, with a similair population size, according to the government web site; 'As of 9am on 16 August, there have been 14,503,645 tests processed in total across all 4 pillars in the UK.' lets be open and transparent please ????
