Covid19 visa

Featured Replies

This is a unique and special situation.

Why government doesn't create a unique and special Covid19 visa, were people on amnesty will need to pay, let's say 20 /30k baht, and being allowed to stay in Thailand until all this finishes?

We contribute with local economy , we don't take risks about traveling abroad, win win etc etc etc.

Government can think about new rules for new tourists later.

Touristic places are getting empty as people is departing due to uncertainty.

It's very sad to see all this happening. Locals are sad and worried.

Love Thailand

Agree...You'd think the government would be trying to keep as many foreign tourists here as long as possible to help businesses.

You've got families flat broke and queueing up for a scoop of white rice whilst the government has voted to spend 22.5 billion on two shoddy looking submarines. Hence, don't expect them to do anything sensible.

They have made this visa. It's called Elite visa and only costs 500,000 baht for 5 years... or so I've read in this forum...

20/30 k is high. A normal fee of 1900b is more resonable. I am even happy to pay like 5900b (the price for a multi entry visa) but not 30k.

If I was able to fly without the quarantine and all the restriction, a new visa would cost me no more than 8000-10k, including ticket and rooms.

Government was very nice to make amnesty, so I cannot say they didn't do nothing. They cared. Was not their obligation.

About visa price, I would prefer free, but at least they can make profit and know who and where had stayed (good people in).

Yes, I spent way less when needed to make visa runs. Now all borders closed. No chance.

Elite visa.... Different times.

Covid19 visa makes sense, even if Elite holders would like to complain; Unique situation.

Kicking out tourists, trying to find a way to attract tourists on 14 day hotel quarantine?

Common sense should prevail.

Most of us who find ourselves here due to covid have no desire to stay 5 years.  I will be glad when a vaccine is available and I am able to leave.

I still don’t understand why they haven’t created a special 1 year elite covid visa.  They could have sold that to those of us who wanted to stay,  And they could start selling it to long term tourists who would be willing to quarantine for 2 weeks.

If you're over 50, you just do retirement extensions. If you're under 50 and married, then you do marriage extensions. If you're under 50 and not married, then you should be enjoying the Philippines, Vietnam or somewhere else depending on your budget. So who is buying these Elite visas at their ridiculous cost? I can only think that it's guys who are under 50 and getting divorced from a Thai wife and want to stay with their mia noi.

Or other reasons.... I bought mine well over a decade ago... Single, early 30’s, didn’t plan to marry any time soon and Thailand was my base for rotational work throughout South East Asia - the Thai Elite membership was the perfect solution for many in a similar situation...

Now that I’m married its no longer absolutely necessary, but just adds the convenience with frequent overseas trips and also not having to do a Chaengwattana extension every year.

A 1 year Thai Elite Visa would be perfect under the current conditions and ease the burden on many who are encountering difficulties and uncertainty travelling to their home nations.

Alternatively - the Government could simply allow people to apply for a 6 month Tourist Visa from within the country.

This way people remain legal and Thailand gains favour with people who are more likely to return.

Those people remaining here also contribute towards the tourist sector.

Thailand is currently being extremely foolish by not making life very easy for foreigners wishing to remain in the kingdom.
