There were two new Covid-19 cases over a 24-hour period, the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration said on Monday (August 24), the 91st day without domestic cases since May.

A 35-year-old Thai male student had returned on August 8 in a flight that had previously reported 20 cases. He was found positive on August 21.

A 71-year-old Qatari man arrived in Thailand on August 22 and went to alternative hospital quarantine in Bangkok. He tested positive for Covid-19 on the same day. However, his sons who accompanied him were negative but are under observation.

Meanwhile, one patient was discharged after full recovery.

As of August 24, the total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 3,397 (460 in state quarantine) -- 117 are under treatment, 3,222 have recovered and been discharged, and there have been 58 deaths.

Globally, the total number of confirmed cases increased to 23.5 million, up by 206,000 on Sunday; 16 million have recovered while deaths stood at 818,000. Thailand ranks at 117th for most number of cases in the world. The US has the highest number (5.87 million), followed by Brazil (3.6 million) and India ( 3.1 million).

Also interesting. Are the sons in quarantine?

So what type of Visa did the Qatari man and his sons have?

Business? Investment? Medical? Resident?

Tourist not yet supposed to be allowed!

So, how was the Qatari man allowed to board the aircraft? Aren't they supposed to have been tested 72 hours prior to departure?

He tested negative when tested 72 hrs before his flight, and tested positive some 72 hrs or more later after arriving.

Thats what the quarantine is for.

He could have contacted Covid-19 at any time after his first ‘pre-flight’ test, or contracted Covid-19 from a Thai he was sat near on the flight (Thai’s are not subject to the requirement for a Pre-flight Covid-19 test).

The "I found plenty of oil in my backyard" visa.

A fair bet would be ‘medical visa’ - so many citizens of Middle East Nations come to Thailand for medical treatment and this Qatari chappy is 71 years old.

I understood that to mean they are under observation in a hospital quarantine facility - otherwise at the very least remaining in quarantine.

I wonder if under such circumstances a second test is carried out to ensure the result is not a false positive.

Totally agree, the borders are shut, I think they are making all these positive covid-19 cases found in quarantine up, to justify why they want to keep the borders shut..
