People from Burma/Myanmar are usually called *Burmese* , because its easier to say than Myanmarese/ a person from Myanmar . *Burmese* is correct and acceptable You are also implying that they are Bamar ethnics, or you are referring to Bamar ethnics. Using the term “Burmese food” is quite fine, but it does not include Kachin, Rakhine, Mon and the many other ethnicities. Using the term Burmese as inter-changeable with Myanmar (which, historically, it was) would be insensitive to the diversity of Myanmar, and to the 40% of Myanmar people that are not Bamar. It is a rather contemporary convention, but it is a good convention, contributing to unity in diversity, with some minor linguistical compromises. The safest term is just “Myanmar”. (e.g : You're a Myanmar? Or You’re from Myanmar?). He or she will further imply if their ethnicity is Kachin, Mon or Bamar (Burmese), but some ethnicities still have specific subgroups, (e. g : a Kachin can be a Jingpho, Lisu, etc). The majority of Myanmars residing in US, UK, and Australia are from Chin, Kachin, and Kayin States, it'll be a bonus if you’re able to identify their specific ethnicities . (e.g : Chin State consists of 53 different ethnic groups). Dont mix apples and oranges as it offends ethnic classifications.

I doubt it will have any impact or maybe a marginal one. What needs to be changed is the mentality of the Thai driver/biker and that, no amount of testing and licence requirement will bring about. Worse, motor bikes take on sidewalks as if they own them.

DBath
Another idiot who doesn’t know how to ride. I’m fine with stupid riders who are willing to put their own life at risk, but not when they jeopardize the life/well-being of others.

Section 104 of the Land Traffic Act says that, if there's a zebra crossing within 100m, a pedestrian must use it to cross a road Don't know where the nearest crossing was here so maybe not an illegal act to cross at that point. In some countries, 'jaywalking' isn't an offence. Edited August 27, 2020 by MartinL

What if a pedestrian wants to cross the road, for example coming out of one shop and wanting to go to another one directly on the opposite side of the road. Can anyone see a local walking up to 200m to do this, to comply with section 104 above?

City put in crossing on 2nd road 5? years ago.... push buttons, flashing traffic lights, full kit. It has worked perhaps 3 weeks total in that time. I have suggested to condo they call city hall. Fat chance. During high season (when we had them) they'd have security guard acting like crossing director, attempting to minimize chance Euro visitors might cross, thinking pedestrians have some sort of right of way and cars would stop for them
