Like a soap opera! Belgian actor sneaked into Thailand after blacklist then appeared in Thai movies

Thai media Naew Na reported on the arrest of a Belgian actor who had been in Thailand for years without papers.

Indeed his tale of forgery, blacklisting, sneaking across a border, hiding out with no passport, bringing a different woman back to his apartment most days, then appearing in Thais soaps and movies because he could speak Thai is like a Thai movie in itself.

Mr Prima, 49, - referred to as a bad guy by the media who named a dozen officers including immigration chief "Big Oud" as playing a part in his arrest - was nabbed in Bangkok in the Lat Prao area of the capital.

Here is his full story:

Region 1 immigration officers received an email tip from another section of the IB that a European was living a nice life and was a presentable character. He could speak Thai well and clearly.

But it appeared that he did not have a passport and had been staying at a Wang Thong Lang apartment for four years.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect was bringing a string of Thai women back to his apartment. Each one was different to the last. Yet he didn't appear to have any work.

Finally after enough evidence was gathered immigration moved to confront Mr Prima.

There was absolutely no record of him on the database so his fingerprints were checked.

This revealed that he had been arrested in 1999 for falsifying documents.

He was deported and was blacklisted from reentering Thailand.

This was when Mr Prima opened up and told his story.

In 2014 he tried to enter Thailand at Suvarnabhumi airport but entry was denied due to him being blacklisted.

He then flew to Myanmar and then to Cambodia.

After that he sneaked into Thailand through a natural crossing circumventing border authorities.

He then started living in Thailand again. A scouting agent invited him to appear in Thai movies and soaps in cameo or supporting roles because he could speak Thai.

It was also noted that he had an easy going personality and liked acting and was readily accepted into the Thai acting fraternity.

He was always being hired when roles for foreigners were needed.

He is now in the hands of the Wang Thong Lang police.

His story was recounted in a briefing yesterday attended by IB chief Lt-Gen Sompong "Big Oud" Chingduang flanked by senior IB police in front of a huge vinyl board depicting RTP chief Gen Chakthip Chaijinda and Big Oud.

An officer in a hazmat suit and heavily armed commandos also played their roles.

Naew Na said that all this came from PM Prayuth and DPM Prawit whose policies were to clean up Thailand from Thai and foreign lawbreakers.

Hate to point out their incompetence, but the fact he had been in broad daylight, even appearing on the TV shows all 12 probably watched at some point, for years before they caught up with him, kind of proves the point.

All this for someone who was illegally living here. And as with most big cases (or cases they've glorified), it's not about the criminal or crime, it's about the people in charge who are complete f****** narcissists.

Children playing adults.

Agreed, just the sheer audacity of hiding in the open.

Oh, I thought it was referring to a scene in one of the soap operas. My mistake.

Is there a Thai version of Benny Hill?

Boy, that's some idiotic photo, and all for one illegal immigrant. Someone needs to cut the Bureau's budget.

They are running out of foreigners to arrest and scapegoat now.

Most stupid people do not realise they are stupid, for if they did, it would make them fairly smart.

in flemish it means "Ezzra"

And how do you know he speaks flemish?

Probably you don't know that in Belgium, there are 3 official languages.

I don't know.

Whatever it is it wouldn't accurately describe this clever, talented, and resourceful man.

I guess people where jealous about the different girl each night and the not working

but actor? never heard of him, EVER

mr prima (= GREAT in dutch) what surname ?

How many of the <deleted>/west Asians selling overpriced suits are here working legally or with unfalsified documents? They can't even speak a word of Thai, and are left to roam free.

wow, so as a foreigner he must have been seen as a threat for Covid, and then because he played a bad guy in the Thai Lakorns, and such they needed commandos because of his expertise as a villan....Another made for Thai TV script has just been written.  I wonder if they filmed the entire incident and are shopping the footage to the television programs for a price so they can include the footage in one of many shows....

'his skills in covert operations'

Perhaps the emptying of a suspect's bank account without the use of an anaesthetic?

Wow, you sneak into Thailand as you are blacklisted and then decide appearing on Thai TV is a good idea.

That's pretty dumb.
