webfact Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 "It's just a BB gun!" : Police take no action after man strolls into snooker hall with "M-16" Picture: Daily News A man who strolled into a snooker hall to sort out a problem being faced by a relative gave himself up to the Samrong Tai police in Samut Prakan. Video of the incident went viral as it looked like the man was a hoodlum with an M-16 war weapon. A post spoke about "wild west" Thailand and a society out of control where influential people can do as they please. This happened on Thursday at 11 pm and on Saturday Kiatsak or "Oot", 54, who was holding the gun and who had got out of a white car, Narongchai or "Bird", 30, his relative and Somkid or "Jaap", 48, who was driving all surrendered to the police. Oot said that a group of young people had been making trouble for Bird who had to go into hiding and couldn't go to work. Picture: Daily News So he decided to go to the snooker hall to help him sort it out. The gun was just to scare them, he said, and it was only a BB gun. There was no violence. Police took the gun into evidence. The police made a report and let him go as they had received no complaint from anyone about the incident. If they do they will issue a summons. worgeordie Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 I thought BB guns were also illegal here ,although readily available along with the real thing, only illegal if police can be bothered. The guy with the BB gun would have gotten a shock if the people who he had gone to intimidate had real guns . regards worgeordie

Possession of BB guns is legal, they are not considered to be firearms according to some sources and do not have to be registered although there are conditions that the owner has to comply with. The owner in this thread is breaking at least one of the conditions making, theoretically, his gun illegal. You used the words "also illegal" suggesting that other types of gun are illegal also, that's not necessarily the case, licenced firearms are legal in Thailand. Edited August 31, 2020 by Hi Tea
