If someone is black or white does not matter, or if someone shoots in self defense or kills is not relevant to this story. It also doesn´t matter if the guy that shot is a white supremacist or a fisherman doing needlepoint. If you after this look at it another way. How in the world can a 17 year old that gets attacked by protesters suddenly just have an assault rifle at hand just for the reason to protect himself. This, sadly, is what happens when you start allowing people who have no business being armed with deadly weapons to be allowed to possess and carry deadly weapons.  People get killed.

 

I don't think civil rights protesters should be allowed to carry and use deadly weapons.  I don't think right wing militias should be allowed to carry and use deadly weapons. I don't think baby-faced teenagers should be allowed to carry and use deadly weapons.  People are gonna get killed.

 

Also, police need to start enforcing the laws neutrally and fairly for all -- not encouraging and handing out water to right-wing armed militias, while arrested, beating and pepper-spraying or rubber bulleting unarmed protesters.

 

Ahh... and of course... STOP killing black Americans who aren't posing a lethal threat to anyone.

Trump infamously said he could shoot someone in the head on 5th Avenue and not lose the support of his base.

 

We now have evidence members of Trump’s base can shoot people on any high street and not lose Trump’s support.

It says a lot about a country when you have 17 year old vigilantes patrolling the streets with assault rifles and killing people, nothing good!

 

Nothing will improve in the USA, only going to get worse as both sides are entrenched in hatred.

Im not always in violation of state open carry laws but when I am I always make sure I stop by a demonstration full of disaffected people, just for a look.

 

This kid went looking for trouble, he found it. Good luck with being tried as an adult.

I am afraid that you right. Lots more display of weaponry at demonstration. In May, hundreds of men armed with assault rifles tried to enter the state capitol building in Michigan to protest the lockdown measures. More show of force and none backing down. An increase in violence is quite likely. US really in need for leaders to calm the nation. Will not expect POTUS to have the empathy and ability to do that. Will be just content that he don't add fuel to the already volatile situation. Even that will be high improbable.  

Trump has no moral compass, none at all.  He is basically a stupid man who, by more luck than judgement, and a rich father, has managed to crawl up to where he is now. He is a joke, a low intelligent individual, who has attained power because of the innate stupidity of the voters and the sleazy reputation of his opponent.  Leader of the free world, I think not.  He couldn't  lead a starving dog to food.

Black Americans represent 13% of the population, white Americans are at least 60.4% and up to 72% depending on how you classify hispanics.  But let's say 60% to 13% you'd expect if all things were equal to see 4.6x more whites shot by police than blacks if all things were equal. That's not what you see:

Year on Year Number of Whites vs. Blacks killed ratio:

2017: 2.04x
2018: 1.9x
2019: 1.57x
2020: 1.96x
Average: 1.87x more whites are killed by police than blacks.
Expected ratio: 4.6x more.

That means that blacks by population are shot 247% more often than whites. And it's not just in shootings. You can see similar numbers across the board in the justice system.
