That´s a good idea! Or???? Nooo, if people only have holidays, they will not make any money to travel for, right?

You think this simple logic would come across but that is the frustration these leaders don't get it! More holidays oh it is coming in another few months majority of the business will be close and gone forever and she will get her wish!  the problem these people will have no money!  ????

No it can't, you will see.

With that sort of attitude it's bound to fail- so negative.

This is a great opportunity if the right people get their act together, but if they have the same attitude as yourself it will be a disaster.

When a town/city or area loses its primary and major source of income, it loses it's ability to maintain itself in the condition "to which it has become accustomed".

You will not find it quite so "pleasant" when it has declined to become the equivalent of a

ruined ex-steel town or coalfield, or of a farming community annihilated during the days of the "Dust Bowl", or, most apposite, a played out gold mining town.

Darkside will likely be quite pleasant even after bright side succumbs. It's got enough expats to feed the infra.

IMO Pattaya as it was has gone for good. Vaccine may never happen or be years away.

Time to come up with some good ideas to re invent Pattaya as something better than the <deleted><deleted> it had become before corona put it out of its misery.

Up to the Thais though.

So, less income comes in does not mean everything collapses. Loads of Thais coming for the weekend.

If immigration pulled it's head out it could reposition Pattaya as a hub for farang retirees once flights resume. Lots of things can be done if one only has some vision and doesn't keep trying to do the same failed thing over and over. However, the Thais may well cause a disaster if they don't wise up. It's entirely in their hands- they never ask us what to do, do they?

Pattaya is never going to bank of foreign retirees for it's income, do you really believe that? The numbers of expats and retirees has been declining for years, the numbers going to Thailand have fallen by over 50% in the last 10 years, only a fool would bet a cities future on that trend. I think you are looking at the future of the cities economic survival based upon what fits you, I assume you are a retired person. The future has to rely on something that has growth and a future, Thailand will not be a retirement country for much longer, the exchange rate, the unwelcome feeling, the stigma,, there are lots of reasons that have been covered on this forum for years. I mean no disrespect but you need to wake up and be realistic. I image the whole city will collapse as it was, the Thai Chinese will buy up the properties at a snip and re invent the place as a Thai/ Chinese playground, especially if Casinos one day get the go ahead. I don't know this for sure but what I do know for sure is the days of old are disappearing never to return.

Short, simple summary that says it all. ????

Pattaya was many things to many people, but it was never, ever "world class".

It does not fella, expats are not the future of Pattaya.

Not negative, realistic. Why do you think that? The city needs a new direction, new investment, new ideas. If it gets that I will be the first to stand on an orange box waving the flag. A big difference between realisation of and stating the truth and being negative. I would argue that not facing up to and dealing with a serious problem is living in denial.

A year from now the majority of the planet will be vaccinated. Not sure if Pattaya will return to what it was though.

No argument there.

The reason farangs were not going so much was because they made it too unpleasant and expensive. Reduce accommodation prices and bring in farang friendly immigration policies would reverse that.

I was just in Pattaya for the week and couldint wait to go back to my boring rural issan village life as that's how bad it is. A very sad depressing place Pattaya has become a true shell of its formal self... RIP.

You really are a barrel of laughs, not. Try looking on the bright side- you might even enjoy the peace and quiet.

The Darkside is up and running. The better businesses are back in profit, very few have closed permanently.

I don't think the 2 week tourists were ever affected by immigration.

If the cavemen had that attitude, they would never have left the cave because a saber tooth tiger might eat them, starved to death and the human race would never have survived.

Any crisis is an opportunity if only there are those with the vision to seize it.

Anyway, you are bringing me down with all that negativity, so I'm off this thread. Bye.

it will become like a complete ghost town. Very sad considering how the city used to be

Being a quiet seaside resort with palm trees and sand and little traffic is what first drew people to Pattaya. Maybe it's going full circle and will be a pleasant place to visit again. Just not what it became, noisy, over-crowded, polluted, full of scams. Which would people prefer?

Bangkokians have Bang Saen for that. Lots of Bangkokians in Pattaya at the weekend enjoying the party lifestyle.

I met 2 wonderful girls today my Line app is lighting up constantly can't keep up.

Wish I could share some photos truly amazing.

Seriously, having the greatest time of my life so happy I live in Pattaya.

And I see more restaurants on google maps than ever. The large moobaans are all here and people like to eat out. But few want to brave the traffic or parking on the bright side. If anything, I think Darkside has a bright future (pun intended).

Yesterday early afternoon I was in the Terminal 21 mall and I was surprised. Compared to the Central Mall there were many people. To me it looked like before Corona. I didn't check how many people were sitting in every restaurant but many people were walking around and the food court was also busy. Also the parking area was pretty full.

same. on the french coast in lock down. nice quite.  ,its not just thailand , its the world that is suffering  and business  everywhere.  ,and lets say WHY.  .due to the Chinese  eating wild animals.  ,how many people in the world. lost loved ones ,how many people out work ,how many business  have or will be lost world wide ,streets and bars are empty everywhere

Many severe illnesses came from China. Lack of hygene in overcrowded places, spitting around, zero distance, bad habits are the reason. And now that they got wealthy the cockroaches are out to infest the whole world in record time. Suprized?

Remember Mr. Anoutin? You said the farangs are dirty they don't shower that's why Thai people get sick (with Wuhan Covid).. I will never forget the garbage you told about us publicly! Shame on you!

Make every weekend a four day weekend....

that will solved the issue of no people?

No....the answer is letting foreigners back in w/o Q and manage them...

otherwise, expect a week-day ghost town...

cant expect people when there are no people around....

I'll go with the quarantine. I own a Condo in Pattaya and am married to a Thai. I can, it would seem, go now, but my vacation is at the end of December. The problem is the flights back to Korea where I work. Are there any? I have Nine weeks vacation. My wife and I have been seperated for almost seven months already. I can only go in December if I know I have a reliable fight back to work at the end of February. The Thai government "plans" are ridiculous. They change every other day. Do I go to the Thai Embassy in Seoul tomorrow? Can I book flights? Can I cancel my AQS if for some reason I test positive 48 hours before my flight? Do I spend US$3,000 and not even get to go? Sheesh!

I would come for sure but wait until late November to book.

That is more then 2 months a lot can happen.

If nothing else you get 7 of 9 weeks with your wife if you do not come, it is time with her you can never replace.

Pattaya has from day one had only one goal, to rip as much dough as possible from any foreign visitor. This is called business and tourism.
