Don’t risk an overstay: Foreigners in Thailand urged to renew ‘visas’ BEFORE 26 Sept

The Immigration Bureau has announced that all kinds of long and short term visas can be extended at immigration offices nationwide from now until the 26 September.

All visas will start their validity from the 27th of this month.

Earlier this week, Manager reported that this measure was introduced out of concern for foreigners in a bid to stop overcrowding at offices.

All those on short term (non-stamped visas) such as TR, TS and VOA should leave the country by the 26th.

But there are exceptions.

Those who are sick can get an extension with a medical certificate. Those who cannot get a flight or who are experiencing problems related to the pandemic can get a letter from their embassy or consulate.

The certificates and letters cab then be taken to immigration and these cases can get extensions of 30 days each time.

All those on long term visas of any kind will receive extensions valid from September 27th.

Ninety day reports can all be done as normal.

Foreigners in Thailand should also be reminded that normal overstay fines and penalties will apply from September 27th.

  • All this amnesty stuff has nothing to do with retirement extensions. You have to continue as if this amnesty wouldn't exist.

  • Why would you need to do that? You have a valid permission to stay longer than until 26 sept. It´s only people on amnesty that needs to do this.

  • Madness.  Just let everyone here already stay for as long as they want.  Work together for once--you have one ministry wanting to kick foreigners out while the tourist ministry daily comes up with one

As usual...clear as mud.  So my previous extension based on retirement that is stamped until Oct 27 means nothing and I need to get to immigration by the 26th of September?

You don't have to do anything until 27th Oct, but you can go in on 26th September to extend it if your IO allows extensions up to 45 days before the due date.

the day that this country will streamline their visas type that will be the day they send home half of the people that work in immigration centers in the country and confusing will be minimized...

What confusion? Do you still don't know what sort of visa you need?

It just means that all foreigners wishing to stay in Thailand need to have arranged some means of staying here legally before the 26th. Since you have a visa and valid extension there is no need for you to go to immigration this month. Just stick to your own stamp schedule and you'll be fine.

Translation:  Immigration Limited needs your money.

A government driven by pure pettiness.  You know that money would be spent on rent and food, helping the humble Thai.  I know I know.....

But but but, I heard from somebody that it is ..% sure that it will be extended.

Are those who are using APEX Cards required to leave by the 26th?

The missing number is 0.

Tried to extend on Friday and was told I will lose days if I extend now. I emphasised that it should start 27th September but the IMO was adamant  and they put this stamp in my passport.

I think we can gather that there are 3 chances of this happening - slim, fat, and no along with 2 hopes - bob and ..

My new English neighbour renting the house opposite is under the amnesty. I asked him if he'd got a new visa yet (his plan was to get a volunteer visa) but he said no, he was waiting to see what happens. He's expecting the government to extend the amnesty again, I guess. As I understand it, he's left it too late now to get a volunteer visa, he's in his forties and reasonably fit so I doubt he'd get a medical visa, and there are flights back to the UK every week so he can't get a letter from the embassy to say that he can't return. I wonder what his plan is now?

This again is just a big push to get people out of the country. They did not say NO amnesty again, just don't let the door hit you in the back side on the way out. Another amnesty this week for sure?

What was the original immigration status (type of entry) that you were able to claim the amnesty on?

Maybe Saraburi Immigration are a bit busy with all those agent-filed extensions from Phuket squatters.

No need to until October i would advise you go a few days prior rather than leave it until the last day.

My friend who has an OA went to the IO last month to do 90 day report they looked at his passport and handed it back to him saying call us on 17 September as we expect to know what’s happening by then his yearly OA expires on that day it appears the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing I expect more announcements in the coming days I cannot see why they just cannot give another 3 months amnesty if 100,000 People leave that’s a fair loss of income to the local economy Whilst people are stuck the saving grace is that they are spending money.

Yes you MUST report before sept 26. I’m here on retirement visa.

Why take a chance?  Get off your ass and go to immigration

i'm leaving at the end of next week, mainly to avoid the crowds, but it occurs some people could wait it out for two months acrue a 20,000 baht over stay fine and then leave. The reason i'm leaving is that I don't see borders opening up until December at the earliest for normal tourists . So i dont think the overstayers have a good plan in that case they might get banned. These expensive hotels on the Phuket model are something else.

I also think the thai  government have made it clear this time its the end, there aren't even any rumours of another extension so thats a waste of time. That being said before the last amnesty a member of the government was telling all foreigners to get out. However this time I think its clear. That neighbour mentioned by someone earlier in his rented house might want to get his flight booked.

Back home I can get some walking in for about three months, something its impossible to do here in 35 degree heat with a mask on. I expect to come back fitter and stronger.

Madness.  Just let everyone here already stay for as long as they want.  Work together for once--you have one ministry wanting to kick foreigners out while the tourist ministry daily comes up with one wacky unsuccessful scheme after the other to desperately try to get foreigners to visit.

me thinks he will have a problem unless he thinks right about another extension . he will be on overstay

you can't get another extension without a letter from your embassy for which you need a fairly good excuse like your sick and can't fly.
