The cloud cuckoo land kid strikes again.????

So Prayut says any tourist must wear a GPS wrist band, ha, ha ,ha, dream on pal.

I think you are wrong. Western farang wouldn't tolerate that I agree, but the Chinese, the tourists Thailand wants back urgently it seems, won't mind. It's the norm there anyway to be monitored 24/7. The pretties and the bars won't be happy but the Thai Chinese will.

you are correct, these devices will need a sim card to constantly upload data, they will need to be charged like a smartwatch or phone, GPS requires quite a lot of battery, add to that the GSM data connection and you are looking at something the size of a house to make it through one day, this is all total nonsense, not to mention it would need to be waterproof

Satellite tracking is the way to go.

Good point....unikely that the average Chinese person on a group tour will object.

Coincidentally they have chosen Chinese and Scandinavians or the ones most prone to accept these impositions. Chinese coming from decades of Communist dictatorship, while the Scandinavians especially the Swedes are already used to it since the most of them are already microchipped

A mixture of face and xenophobia. An effort to pacify the rising  anger in the desperate tourism industry?

It is a symptom of every military government to seek information , data and try to control....... regardless of whether it is necessary or even useable.

6 months ago, it was pretty bad the xenophobia amongst the local popation, some racist/brainwashed staff in some stores like 7-11 not wanting to serve, and getting one of the other staff to do it for them, it hasn't been as bad the last few months, but i can imagine with all the media hype around tourists, except the media forced stories on chinese saviours, its going to increase the racist levels locally for all of us

There are other people in the rich elite who are tired of losing billions of Baht of revenue due to the isolation of the country. But it s Prayut and Prawit who do not want tourists in the country now. They are the ones who create the hassles and keep to borders closed as much as possible. Because it is for their own financial benefit.

These current schemes of "reopening the country" are only made to appease the other side, to make them believe that the government cares of the tourism industry, while the real plan is to ruin the industry. There is a hidden agenda going on between Prayut, Prawit and their Chinese friends. And it's really easy to understand.

China uses the Covid crisis as part of their road and belt initiative. They pay currupt governments in the region to ruin their country, to make it a bargain for Chinese investors. Now in Thailand, they do not want foreign tourists here, because this would be against their plan to destroy the tourist industry here. And also, they want to keep the number of foreign observers as low as possible while they do it.

It's so cheap for China to buy a whole country, when they have the right friends in power there. It costs only a few million dollar and a handful of luxuary watches.

The wristbands are only one more hassle to reduce the number applicants for these toursts schemes. But you can bet that these Chinese investers who will be the first coming with their own private jet, will not have to wear the wristbands.

This is what's happening here. Just ask the Cambodians and expats who live there. Here's further evidence:

Whilst this does sound very draconian, I suspect the general means wearing a tracker whilst in isolation only, not when you leave quarantine, as no one should ever accept that kind of loss of privacy. There was an article the other day regarding these covid trackers

Casino gamboling......The game where almost EVERYONE is a loser except the Casinos, the state, and the land owners....Gamboling would destroy Thailand...

Nope, from the OP:

That means all foreign tourists allowed in under the special tourist visa must wear GPS wristbands so that their movements can be closely tracked.

What you got there is a NFC chip in a wrist band, not active GPS tracking.

How much are the criminals being charged for these GPS trackers as i am sure they will not be supplied free of charge.

They really need someone with an ounce of common sense to stop all of these ridiculous ideas before they make fools of themselves every single day.

I think we are truly past that stage..Now it's a comedy segment with actors in silken jackets

I haven't read through all 18 pages, so please forgive me if this has been asked already.

Do these lock on?

If not, what's to stop the tourist taking it off before heading to a massage parlour, or somewhere else that wouldn't look good when the GPS records are requested by a divorce court?
