snoop1130
UK seeks to avoid national lockdown to stop unemployment in millions, minister says LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government is seeking to avoid a full national lockdown to prevent unemployment soaring into the millions, Environment Secretary George Eustice said on Thursday. “I’ve not seen any projections of 4 million but certainly we know that there are some 700,000 extra people that are already unemployed as a result of this, and yes you know the projections are, that there are going to be economic impacts,” Eustice told Sky. “It’s for precisely that reason that we are trying to avoid full lockdown,” he said. Britain’s Office for Budget Responsibility forecast in July that unemployment would peak at 11.9% in the final quarter of 2020 under its central economic scenario, equivalent to just over 4 million people, before averaging 3.5 million in 2021. In a more negative scenario, unemployment would average 4 million through 2021. The Bank of England has forecast that unemployment will rise to around 2.5 million by the end of this year. -- © Copyright Reuters 2020-10-01 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Another lockdown will make the economy collapse , no lockdown will make more people collapse ... And the winner is ... ?

Keep people save that are vulnerable (old people, people with overweight, diabetes, etc...). Let healthy "young" (0 - 50) people work, go to school, etc... Here's an interesting table from the World of Stats website. Age of Coronavirus Deaths AGE DEATH RATE DEATH RATE confirmed cases all cases 80+ 21.9% 14.8% 70-79 8.0% 60-69 3.6% 50-59 1.3% 40-49 0.4% 30-39 0.2% 20-29 0.2% 10-19 0.2% 0-9 no fatalities Edited October 2, 2020 by wolf81 4

A real lockdown for 4 weeks be successful. same thailand, Wuhan, many place etc. But If have covidiots, anti maskers, anti vaxxers, protest, anti lockdowners, want to go to pub, have party, conspiracy loons etc will be waste time. Have covid AND bad economy. Successful if 99% follow rules. Impossible for UK. Good luck.

I remember some had a ' Covid party ' in the US , they laughed about it , but , at least one later died of it ... he did regret that he was stupid enough to go there ... Anyway , up to them , it is their life ... I do not see that it will be possible to control or limit the growth of the number of infected people ... better Thailand keeps it's borders closed . It will be a painful time for all the thai ' entrepreneurs ' who depend on foreign money , but it is still better than a growing number of infections and all the severe consequences of that . I think thai people are much better in surviving with little money than farangs . Edited October 2, 2020 by nobodysfriend

Thailand has done well, but at a huge price to many who have lost jobs, businesses, education etc. However, all you have really done is postpone things. You have no exit strategy. You will have to open the borders sooner or later and then it will return. No vaccine is expected until 2022 at the earliest (or maybe there will never be one), will you keep borders closed until then? Millions of job losses also claim lives. For the UK, they should take sensible measures (masks, distancing where possible, work from home where possible) but otherwise let the young and healthy go about their lives. The most common symptom of the virus is feeling absolutely fine. Most young people who catch it don't even know they've got it. It's time to learn to live with the virus and take sensible precautions against it. 3

Admitting that they destroyed thousands of jobs and didn't stop the virus must be difficult to own for a politician. Some of us have been saying from the beginning that in our opinion Sweden got it right, except for not isolating the vulnerable. Seems that we had it right. 1

I liked this : “But social media companies’ irresponsible decision to continue to publish anti-vaccine propaganda means a vaccine may not be effective in containing the virus. The price for their greed is a cost paid in lives.” That is sad , but correct ... In this case , if a vaccine against the virus would be found , it might be ineffective in the end because a part of the population would refuse to take it ... We are living in interesting times , what happens now will later be history ... if there is a ' later ' of course ...
