Thailand seeks Red Bull heir extradition after Interpol 'red notice'

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai police said on Monday they would seek the extradition of the fugitive heir to the Red Bull energy drink fortune, after Interpol issued a global "red notice" seeking his arrest over a deadly hit-and-run.

Vorayuth Yoovidhya, whose whereabouts are unknown, was accused of crashing his Ferrari into a policeman in 2012 and dragging his body at high speed before fleeing the scene.

The issue has generated big interest in Thailand, amid simmering outrage about perceived impunity for the wealthy and connected.

Police spokesman Kissana Phathanacharoen said Interpol issued the notice last week after a Thai court in August approved an arrest warrant for reckless driving causing death and a new charge of drug use.

He said Interpol's members would help establish his whereabouts, "so that he can be formally extradited back to us for further legal action".

Vorayuth missed eight court summonses before authorities sought his arrest in 2017. He later disappeared and in July this year, anger erupted on social media when news broke that his case had been dropped, sparking calls for a boycott of Red Bull products.

Vorayuth is a grandson of the late Chaleo Yoovidhya, who created the energy drink Krating Daeng, or Red Bull, and co-founded the international Red Bull GmbH brand with an Austrian partner.

The new warrant followed a review of evidence previously not included in police reports, which suggested Vorayuth's car was travelling faster than previously thought, and that the suspect's blood test indicated cocaine use.

Neither Vorayuth nor the immediate Yoovidhya family have commented on the charges.

TCP Group, which owns the Thai Red Bull brand, said in July it is run by Vorayuth's uncle and not directly associated with Vorayuth, whose father has part ownership in the international brand.

I checked Interpol at 0700, 6/10/ 020. and there's no Vorayuth Yoovidhya registered under red wanted list.

Been there, tried that, did'nt work! ????

If he is traveling on a Thai passport the Thai government and police know where he is.

If traveling on a foreign passport his whereabouts could still be determined from airline and immigration information.

If he is using a false identity and fake foreign passport that would make it more difficult, however face recognition could find him if countries are obeying the Interpol red notice.

His Thai passport is in a desk drawer somewhere.   He probably stopped using it years ago.  He will only return when the statute of limitations runs out.  Thailand has a better chance of getting a permanent seat on the UN security council, than bringing this spoiled brat home to face "justice".

What happened to releasing the report about the initial investigation screwups?   Did I miss this?????

Total BS

Why would the Thai Government and Police know where he is just because he is traveling on a Thai passport ?

Are you suggesting Thailand is linked to the Immigration system of every country in the world, I think not.

I have entered some countries in Europe where they stamp your passport but don’t record you.

In the UK you don’t even go through Immigration when you leave.

Probably the best way to find him...providing reporters think it's worth it

BS, it's well know where he is.

Lock his mother up lets see if he comes back to help her, doubt it

Blah, blah, blah. Keep kicking the can down the road.

When referring to the government commenting on this issue, and others, I am reminded of the line from Macbeth,” It’s a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”.

They said they would, not that they had. Why not? Why is it taking so !omg? Should have done it weeks ago when it was first decided too much corruption had been discovered.

No one can do anything unless there is an effort to have him arrested in the country where he is situated at the moment. Then there has to be an extradition treaty with Thailand in place. He is probably thinking of that right now, but not worried as no Interpol red notice has been issued.

We will ask Interpol....soon....

Kicking it down the road until the dust settles.

He will get away, no question. His family has not spent a lot of money in bribes to let him get caught.

There are many ways to find him but for some reason they don’t want do it. This is all just gimmick for the publicity.

Thailand pretends to seek Red Bull heir extradition after Interpol 'red notice'

Looks like the worst thing that happened for the Red Bull heir was to have his case dropped here in Thailand.  All it did was kick a sleeping dog.

Vorayuth missed eight court summonses before authorities sought his arrest in 2017. He later disappeared

***************************

So while still in Thailand he snubbed his nose at the court summonses EIGHT times and nothing came of it ? Is it possible that the BIB could not locate his address in Thailand ... after having arrested him at HOME the day of the murder accident !

Now that is what I call preferential treatment !
