Popular Post webfact
Pattaya "brainstorming" as resort braces for more heavy rain Picture: Manager Online Pattaya authorities had a brainstorming session as the resort braced for a further onslaught from mother nature, reported Manager. Huge downpours lasting hours devastated Pattaya on Friday and Saturday in particular. Severe damage was done to the beach. Floodwaters up to 120 cms were experienced at seven spots: Beach Road, Sois Thepprasit 7-9, the Pacific Housing Estate, by the Mum Aroi Restaurant on Sai 3, Sukhumvit by the entrance to south Pattaya and near Thepprasit Lotus and the road by the railway. Picture: Manager Online Now the met office has predicted further deluges from today until Sunday for the Pattaya and Bang Lamung area. Consequently deputy mayor Pattana Bunsawat got his teams together for a brainstorming session ahead of the second wave. Teams will be posted at the seven crisis spots as well as keeping a close watch on 13 "new" flood prone areas. Picture: Manager Online Pattana said the problem was pipes with not enough diameter and trash blocking the drains. Brainwave solutions such as more pumps and using nets to catch the trash were proposed. Popular Post petermik
From my balcony looking out towards the sea here off 3rd Road I can see 8 cranes in the process of building other new developments without any thoughts of increasing the drainage system to cope with the extra burden....and this has been going on for years....brainstorming....what a joke...snow will fall before the authorities here take proper long term action 7
KhunKenAP
I got it. Buy and give away to all residents in flood prone areas. A sure fire solution that can also be used during the next Songkran festival. Hey, this is a better idea than the Pattaya brainstorming group could come up with. lol

Why don't they make overflow drains in those area on the beach and disguise them as mini promenade/peir areas for a few photo ops?
Popular Post JusticeGB
It's not just the diameter of the pipes but also the fact that the pipes are all laid at the same depth below the street. On a sloping street it is common to see fountains of water coming out of the road from the drains laid at the lower parts of the street.

newnative
Hmm. Instead of sitting brainstorming why not hire a permanent crew to keep the drains free of trash. That would be a start.

The last time I saw a cover removed at the south market area, there was only about 2 feet of free space left, the rest was choked with silt and muck. So pipes were big enough but not maintained.

Buakhao had a diameter of a football I suspect somebody cut the cost estimate by reducing the size of the pipes to be used. Where those savings went to is another topic.
