Whilst I revel in the humourous comments from other posters and now each morning  eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new day to drink from that fountain of insanity that emanates from government circles the unintentional humour....I feel the occasional pinge of dispare at the plight of those effected by this insanity.  Ordinary people just getting by,  no money in the bank,  no safety net...  It's hard for them and it's harder with a government that cares not what they suffer. So that humour I find entertaining comes with a dark side for others.

Unfortunately the regime really doesn't care about the honest normal people or even the other part that goes hand in hand which helps support the tourism section here and the upcountry folk who get money from their daughters. Joking aside it certainly does reach far deep and getting deeper everyday from the cockamany mismanagement from the regime who should not be legally in control. And why should they care because they are all quite wealthy controlling and enjoying the spills and in reality aren't even fazed one way or the other. Only going to get worse the way the iron fist is going.

After praising Thailand Plus - that comes with the tagline "It gives you more than you thought"

Im not sure having a tag line that sounds like a Beach Road hooker is a good idea.

'STV, It gives you more than you thought'

Quite an apt name & tagline considering that sex tourism is one of the main reasons so many cum (lol) here. In the UK, I vaguely recall there was a similar STV (sexually transmitted viruses) campaign like this back in the 90's.

Track which bars, shops, attractions, parlours, eateries and hotels, nothing like Big Bro; possibly also linked to your credit card to track spending ?

Send small vibrations to remind you three days before expiry visa, and check ticket out seating on transport?

The impending economic disaster will unfortunately propagate even more fascistic and nationalist tendencies among these inadequates so I would proffer that it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

And as we have so often seen during the history of mankind, incompetent regimes that try to perpetuate themselves amid demagoguery without the will of the people always end up destroying themselves and others in the end.

It's way over time these regime elites just get out and go away and let the real Thai manage their country and life.

These are the real Thai mate.

They will have to learn some harsh lessons before anything will change I'm afraid.

Victors do not want to be "steered" away from local Thai, it is how one mixes when one travels, go eat where the locals, do, go to the local attractions.

So no more staying in local villages or travelling on trains with locals?

He advised Thais to eat lots of veg for health and in so doing observe religious precepts.

In addition to not understanding the significance of what "Big Brother" means to farang tourists, Uncle Tu also doesn't seem to have a grasp on Theravada Buddhism.  His quote: "[E]at lots of veg for health and in so doing observe religious precepts"?

*Note: There is absolutely no connection between Thai Theravada Buddhism and vegetarianism.  Zero, nada, none.  Tibetan Buddhism?  Yes.  Thai Theravada Buddhism?  No.  So, perhaps Uncle Tu is actually a follower of the Dali Lama as he seems to have a weak grasp on common knowledge known by virtually all Thai Buddhists.

Not eating meat is not in the 5 precepts, or the 8 precepts, or the 227 precepts.
Without getting into a moralistic or philosophical argument regarding the connection between slaughtering animals as opposed to eating the meat afterwards, the bottom line is this:
There is no precept against eating meat.  If there was, every monk in Thailand would have to either disrobe or do massive amounts of penance every two weeks during Patimoka ceremonies.  Monks can not chose what the receive on alms rounds.  And most of Thai lay Buddhists are not vegetarians, so monks receive meat, curries, and other entrees that are cooked in or contain meat.

He praised the app saying that it would inspire confidence for tourists coming in on the STV scheme and would create further confidence for Thais concerned by the arrival of foreign tourists.

Self appointed greedy Aristocrats at best. Well refined is an absolute no, but refined in the art of taking yes.. Real Thai nope! And let the harsh lessons roll in if the youngins have the balls for it.

After giving this bit of thought, a phone app is not really a big deal at all.   My phone can stay 'off' most all time to conserve battery.  Or the app can be in cheap phone that stays in my suitcase.  Actually, it is an absolutely worthless idea.

Now, if they go to a home arrest bracelet around the ankle we got a problem.

Shades of Axis countries during WWII.  Will Morrison insist you're chipped, tagged, or GPS monitored before you leave?  Vaccinated is a given, which means you're not going anywhere anytime soon.

Borrowed the idea from Big Brother CCP, no doubt.  After they track the tourists, they’ll track expats.

The one or maybe two chinese persons willing to come under this scheme they don’t need any tracker they can just be spotted.

It would help with tracking, tracing, testing, quarantine and add to all the stimulus and economic benefits that the special tourist visa is bound to bring.

Sounds like that line from dodgeball where they are training . “ dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge ! “ Must be where they get their tourism ideas and thoughts that everyone is dying to get locked in a room for 2 weeks at over 100,000 bht ! Delusional !!

Did the PM not get the memo or read the news, there are no STV tourists... These tourists are figment of the Tourism Ministers imagination..

Lets just wish all the protesters all the best on Saturday and hope that they go on to get this soldier and his crew out of "office" as soon as possible.

Who monitors movement? Fines for exceeding limits of no Thai zones? Nothing like this has been tried anywhere in world.

So in 3 years' time, the world will have let the virus rip through. International tourism will be back to normal. Except for Thailand - they will covid free and tourism free too! Thailand looks to be banking on an effective vaccine to come quickly. Which may not happen anytime soon. NO tourist is even going to consider coming here under the current rules. and even if they do, the numbers will be so low as to be inconsequential.

Yeah, and tell Amazon to stop online sales because some people only have typewriters.

99% of people have smart phones.  The 1% that don't are the crusty old posters on TV who don't travel anyway.
