Mae Sot residents protest against lax control of truckers from Myanmar

Several residents of Thailand’s Mae Sot district rallied in front of the second permanent border checkpoint, at the Friendship Bridge, demanding the temporary closure of the crossing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 from Myanmar.

Leaders of the protest took turns to deliver speeches, accusing officials of being lax in controlling the arrival of trucks from Myanmar, allowing some of them to venture as far as the fresh market and dense communities, exposing Thai residents to the virus, which is spreading in Myanmar.

Three Myanmar truckers were found to be infected after their return to the Myawaddi Township from Mae Sot last week. The discovery of the infections triggered a COVID-19 scare among people in Mae Sot, prompting Thai health officials to conduct random tests of almost 10,000 Thais and Myanmar migrant workers in vulnerable communities over the past few days.

I certainly don't blame them for being angered over this.

Good luck to them!

Well if they are angered over this then they are to blame for being angered over this.If someone else was angered over this then they would be blamed for being angered over this.Who else would you blame for being angered over this? They have only themselves to blame for being angered over this.I'm not angered over this so I'm certainly not to blame for being angered over this. Are you angered over this?If people can't control their anger then they are to blame for it.

Allowing goods to be transported across the border is one thing, to let the drivers walk around freely is just plain stupid.

Well I've given the subject much consideration and have come to the conclusion that the egg came first and when people say where did the egg come from I reply the egg came from the chickens mother and there's been no mention of the chicken's mother in the question on "what came first the chicken or the egg?"In the question of anger and blame it's my view that they occur at the same time but the blame for anger always lays with the the owner of said anger.I've often seen the owner of anger try to attribute the cause of their anger to other's.The only reason people get angry is when expectations are not met. It's a simple matter to reduce one's expectations though this is sometimes very difficult to do.

Maybe they should be welded into the cabs of their trucks? Is it because you fear they "may" have a viral infection that their freedom to walk around should be withdrawn? What if I fear you had a viral infection should that be enough to withdraw your freedom to move about?

So what's the answer, open the border and let them in freely?

The "may have a viral infection" has been proved.

These truck drivers should be required to test for Covid before entering Thailand.  Otherwise no entry!

Yes the answer is open the borders and let it rip the way Sweden did it if they kept the borders open the whole thing would be over and we could move on instead of being stuck in a perpetual fear of the next wave.

Why?Are you suggesting that every time a truck driver comes over the border they should wait 2 days for their test results before they cross? Why not do it properly and make them do 2 weeks quarantine as well.Maybe we should do what they do in Oz and make everybody do 2 weeks quarantine ever time a state border is crossed after all we don't want the virus to spread.Thailand let the Sars Cov 2 virus rip through the country until mid April.I'm positive I've had it in Feb with all the classic symptoms including the after affects of the infection although no ability to test where I am and the 3600 deaths of viral pneumonia of "unknown" cause until the records stopped being published.Perhaps they should test but they're not interested in testing they should have tested through out the whole pandemic like most countries but they seem to want to keep the fear going. The WHO say 10% of the global population have probably been infected which would put the IFR at 0.14% the same as the normal Flu rate. There are suggestions that in Japan 48% of their population have been infected and look at their low infections and only about 1600 deaths.Perhaps it's time to say we tried our best to stop this virus and failed and now it's time to move on.I put my life at risk every time I go for a drive but that doesn't stop me.

No, i am suggesting that the tests should be done prior to them arriving in Thailand, so in their home country. No test =  ????

Even if those were Covid related , it still shows that the infection & death  rate is in fact  a lot lower than that of the west. Hence why Thailand should continue to keep such people out of the country until there is a logical and effective solution.

Let's  get to the point of why they need to be admitted at all. What cargo are they importing that is so essential to Thailand? Why do they not need COEs as mandated by the authorities?

Surely this means that they picked it up in Thailand
