National Police chief Pol General Suwat Jangyodsuk on Monday ordered the suspension of public broadcasting/internet posting by several media channels, and also ordered an investigation into those media.

Suwat issued the orders in his capacity as chief of Command Centre for Serious Emergency Situation (CCSES).

The media that were told to halt their broadcasting/internet posting are: Voice TV, Prachatai.com, The Reporters, The Standard, and Free Youth Group.

The CCSES said that there has been reporting of content in those media that could affect national security or public morality.

The order was to be carried out by related agencies, namely National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission and Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), who will stop the broadcasting or delete the computer data of the named media, depending on the case.

Shortly after the order was announced, Mana Treelayapewat, dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, posted on his Facebook a picture of a pigeon and a fist with a message: “Harass the media, harass the public”.
