Hello

I have a long history of eye problems and surgeries..

I had a retina detachment treated (very well) by Dr Attaporn (BPH) through a long complicated surgery in august 2019 (Dr Roy from Rutnin was not available and this was an emergency but she made an excellent job)

In the same eye the intraocular lens has to be replaced and the one in place is getting grey (I don t know the reason why but can t be treated through laser as it is the lense itself which is damaged)

Dr Attaporn cannot perform this.. there is in BPH a Dr Nattaphon Wongwiwat.. but I don t find any info or feed back for this doctor

Of course my best option would be Dr Roy, but then have to go to BGK and also surely for check ups after the surgery.. second problem my insurance doesn t cover for Rutnin (they will tell me next week if they can agree exceptionaly after investigating..) and already told me NO for Burumgrad where Dr Roy also consults..

My insurance covers (partly) for BPH, Samitivej Sriracha and also some other hospitals in BGK of course Bangkok hospital Samitivej etc...

I need an excellent profesional as I had to change the intraocular lense in the other eye 10 years ago.. and this was a nightmare.. the new intraocular lens had to be removed after 2 months of on going procedures due to internal bleeding in the eye after the new lense was placed..

Now I have no lense inside and my view is very low of course.. So, getting the same problem in the other eye would make me not very far from being blind...

Any reco for an excellent profesional in one of the agreed hospitals and mainly around Pattaya Sriracha in case ??
Thank you very much

I'm afraid I have no feedback on Dr.NUTTAPHON WONGWIWAT, all I know is what is shown on the website. Trained at Siriraj. No international training. Same will be true of any in Sri Racha. This of course does nto mean they are nto good, just makes it harder to assess based on qualifications alone.

Aside from BPH, Dr. Nuttaphon is also at Pattaya International Hospital.

I would be very surprised if your insurance would not cover Rutnin since it is far less expensive than BPH. Are you sure it is that it won't cover Rutnin or is it just that they do nto have a direct payment arrangement with Rutnin? (in which case you would have to pay first but could then be reimbursed).

Hello Sheryl..

I then will check my hospital bills, because end of July I saw in emergency an ophtalmologist at PIH as I had problems with my eye and felt it could be a retina detachment and this guy assured me the bleeding was the consequence of dengue fever I suffered the week before.. with no improvement after 10 days I went to see Dr Attaporn in emergency.. and it was retina detachment..I told my insurance that Rutnin is not expensive.. I will contact Rutnin again monday and check again with my insurance ..

Like you I did not find anything in internet.. I am not confident..

Good afternoon Sheryl,

I finally decided to go to Rutnin.. I did not find anyone I would be ready to trust around here (Dr Attaporn doesn t do this type of surgery) My insurance after I sent numerous e mails and a rough estimate from Rutnin, agreed to cover 80%.(as they cover for their authorized hospitals). BUT Rutnin wants me to make a deposit (I imagine equivalent to the surgery cost) and they will refund me after getting paid by insurance.. It is OK for me..

I took an appointment with Dr Roy to get exact quotation, medical certificate and whatever papers they need and plan the surgery on 11th..

Thanks for your support and advice

Hello Sheryl,

I post on the forum as people might be interested to know about profesionalism of Dr Roy.

Was yesterday in Rutnin for 5 hours including nearly one hour with Dr Roy..

He confirmed the intraocular lense was blurry, but asked me to find out which lense it is.

He said the gas injected 15 months ago when got a surgery for retina detachment surely altered the lense..

He said, depending upon the lense, the lense could regenerate, and therefore he said to wait till year beginning.

However he took a long time to explain why and how complicated would the surgery be and ordered an immediate cornea cells counting, as, if cornea cells are very low, chances of success in reemplenting a lense would be bad.. A special way has to be used to fix the lense.

After getting the results he said chances of success are reasonable and we will proceed beginning of 21, except if the lense regenerates in between.. If things go well, perfect, if cornea worsen, a transplant will have to be done but for the moment he hopes things should be OK

In BPH, they only told lense had to be changed, no word about knowing which lense was inserted, neither about possible regeneration, neither about cornea state and possible consequences with a low quality cornea.

Costs were all together 6000 bahts in which cornea cells counting already represents 2000.. so, again, very reasonable..

Thank you

Have a nice afternoon

Did they perhaps provide you a business size card from maker listing the lens and SN when you had it inserted?  That was what I and wife received from hospital here in Bangkok when had cataracts removed.  Your data and SN of lens plus size and strength.  Would expect hospital would also have that data on medical records made when inserted.  These were done 8 years ago so about the same time as yours.

Have a look at Dr. Vilavan Puangsricharern

I don't know if she does what you need. I had excellent experience with her after at least 5 doctors in BNH failed.

Vilavan Puangsricharern, MD, Thailand , President of the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Society of
Thailand (CRST) of Royal College of Ophthalmologist of Thailand

P.S.: I don't know how up to date this information is. I saw her last time a few years ago.
