Udon Thani police on Tuesday searched the residence of Pramuk Jaroensuk, 49, an abbot of a temple in Ban Pheu district, after Noy (last name withheld) a villager in Kheu Nam subdistrict, filed a complaint alleging that the abbot had invited her 12-year-old daughter to have sex with him.

At the suspect’s abode in the temple, officers reportedly found two mobile phones and a tablet containing a video clip of himself masturbating. The clip matched the one Noy claimed Pramuk sent to her daughter, along with the text “Answer me if you want easy money”.

Noy told officials that when she found the video clip with the invitation on her daughter’s phone, she replied asking what he wanted.

“The sender said he would offer Bt2,000 in exchange for sex with him. I searched his name and found that he was the abbot at this temple so I notified the police,” she said. “My daughter said her friends who are in Prathom 6 [grade 6] also received similar invitations from the suspect.”

A preliminary investigation revealed Pramuk is a Khon Kaen local and has been a monk for 23 years. He moved to the temple in Udon Thani’s Ban Pheu district 11 years ago and was elected abbot as the temple has only three resident monks.

Pramuk reportedly admitted that he allegedly texted the invitation and sent the masturbation video to more than 20 children, both male and female, aged around 11-13 years that he befriended on Facebook.

Pramuk was forced to leave monkhood and was taken to the police station, where he was charged with publicising pornographic material and attempting to have sexual intercourse with underage persons.

And I never wonder why I have always watched over my kids every move and protected them. Bunch of sickos out there. Now it is my almost 18 year old daughter and always making sure she knows where and what she is doing so rape doesn't occur. Rape is still a past time of males here.

If rape were to carry a death sentence, there would almost certainly be a large reduction of rape cases

With Thailands reputation for huge numbers of prostitutes operating under the guise of massage/karaoke/bar girls there should be no need for any man to contemplate rape.

Death penalty is apropos for this type of crime. Thailand executes so many for victimless drug crimes, and it seems natural that they would automatically consider kiddie fiddling to be a capital offense. Just plain disgusting.

So we have this guy a Thai monk no less, and we have this Norwegian guy in Pattaya that tell us that this problem is here to stay and it is practiced by both man of god and just ordinary lonely people...

What will be interesting is the difference in sentencing between the two of them ................!!!!!

If premeditated crimes like murder are not deterred by capital punishment there is no chance that it will  deter crims of  sudden urges like rape.

They are not deterred, because rarely are the punishments carried out. Family seytlements are normally the order of the day, with many wais, and a hefty police pay off!  Seen it many times in recent years in my area!

It is not like they publicize capital punishment, and besides it is almost non existent here now.

The guy videotaped himself choking his chicken then sought out kids on Facebook to send it to for getting future meet ups.  That's not a sudden urge.  He had several opportunities to rethink his poor decisions.

This is not a mistake the typical western expat makes they know to only send such videos to legal aged Thai women.

How do you know the timescale of his "so called" "thinking process"?

Were you there?

My question to you guys is, if it was your son or daughter that got molested or approached by some pervert what would you have done?

I would have beaten him to a pulp -regardless of the consequences. Necessary  as the law/police/judges are incapable of exacting adequate justice.

There is no case on record where an executed rapist has raped again. Problem solved with a dire warning to other such scum.

It's only a "stupid comment" to bleeding hearts, who want to let human animals run free to rape and ruin lives. Spare some tears for the homeless and abandoned children, rapists and murderers deserve an agonizing death televised for all to see. Whinging do-gooders always feel sorry for the perp.

What is a perp?

WIKI says;

p53 apoptosis effector related to PMP-22 is a plasma membrane protein that, in humans, is encoded by the PERP gene.[5][6]

PERP is a direct transcriptional target of p53, but its transcription can also be regulated by other transcription factors.[7]

PERP is important for skin development, and loss of PERP is associated with the development and progression of several types of human cancers.[7]

More like a "meerkat" and as understandable to the REST of the world!

As you have outed yourself as an American you obviously know that capital punishment in your country has proved it does NOT deter criminal activity of any kind.

Education, training, job opportunity etc does help but not capital punishment.

PS;  You said "our members" "speak "Merkan"."  Do you OWN TV or are you just a major shareholder speaking on behalf of us mere mortals who thankfully are not born in the US of A?

Obviously, if I were an American chauvinist, I would still BE THERE,rather than living in Thailand. Your "proof" of the lack of deterrence of capital punishment is a matter of debate. rather than settled knowledge. Brutal and violent executions WORK. Those who witness them, have little appetite for a life of crime. Chop them into pieces on live television and record their screams for posterity.????

"Revenge" is EXACTLY what it is. Highly effective in reducing crime. A torturous death is highly instructive to miscreants. If you chop off enough body parts, they quickly bleed to death and do not harm anyone ever again. This is guaranteed.????
