I first came here in 2016 and started using Tinder, I got a ton of matches. But now only 4 years later, I get very little and the quality of women has dropped markedly. I don't really know what's going on but things seem a whole lot harder.

Just curious to know if others have had much experience on dating sites and apps in Bangkok. And whether they had noticed the same thing ?

What are your expectations and what do you have to offer?

 

 

Ideally I'd like an decent educated woman around 40 years of age, in good shape and not looking like quasi modo.

I'm middle age, still have my own hair and teeth, workout every day. Don't drink or smoke. Money not an an issue. I live in a good quality condo in Thonglor.

In that age group and the way you describe you should find plenty of them. But I am not so sure Tinder, or any other online app, is the best place for that. Because which decent educated woman around 40 years of age wants to "compete" with thousands of hookers?

In Thonglor you should be able find them in cafes and supermarkets. Don't be shy.

Well that was kind of my point. 4 years ago I met some decent women on Tinder, but now it seems to have turned to s**t.  I was curious to know if anyone else had also experienced the same.

At my age I dont look for anything decent but waiting for open borders.

If you are not getting many matches it is obvious you are not attractive to women any more - I first came to live here aged 34 - at that age I was literally turning some of them down because I was getting so many - I am now nearly 50 I am struggling to get any at all

The  problem with web apps for hookups and dating is that they eventually run through the  inventory of available merchandise and people get tired of seeing the same tired, used or damaged merchandise.  Also in the time of Covid, many of the more intelligent and responsible people  have reduced their social contacts.

i am quite expert on this subject.

 

what is your age? did you go past 49 or 59 years old? 59 is a real cliff because the girls don't search above that age. 

 

Tinder has some great women on it.  It is GPS based so it depends on where you live. 

Bangkok and Pattaya has hundreds of beautiful women. Hun Hin not so much. Well not at all. Tinder for me has been great in Bangkok. I'm 65. 

 

Anyway, Tinder has also been over run by Chinese scammers. These are people who open fake accounts and post a series of impossibly perfect photographs of beautiful women. They will chat you up and slowly change the subject to how they make $1000 and day and you can too if you only bla bla bla...  you will match with them right away. 

 

another issue now is all these dating platforms are being used by the girls to drive traffic to their Instagram account. They actually make money that way. They have no interest in hooking up with you. however I met some incredible "models" on Tinder that have many friends and one thing can lead to another on Instagram if you know what I mean. Nudge nudge, wink, wink say no more.

 

Thai  Friendly is great if you set the filter function to your requirements. Location, height, weight, age and respect their age limit. Being a paid member is important if you are a professional like me. 

 

I never close Thai Friendly on my notebook computer. If you set the location to Pattaya as a example and study the results like I do, you will see the same faces everyday 24/7 on the first pages of search results. They are the freelancers. Same in Bangkok. One easy way to spot freelancer's profiles is they have no upper age limit for their mate. and they have very simple descriptions, typically one word or two words and very suggestive photos usually with a bed in the background. 

 

another way you can spot a freelancer is after they give you their line account, look at their timeline. there will be nothing on it.  

 

so now that you have been warned as to how to avoid the freelancers you should be good to go.

believe me, i know first hand as of today, there is no covid in Hua Hin or Bangkok or Pattaya. 

i have been everywhere doing every conceivable thing including standing and wading through crowds of 5000-10,000 people for months. nothing.

Just go to any large hospital. Hundreds of nurses varying in looks. They are compulsorily retired at age 45, many can speak some English. You're seeing the real thing, not some fake profile.

I noticed the same trend a few years ago. Started using Tinder in 2015, had lots of hot young quality matches. A few years later in 2017/18, the quality and quantity of matches had gone down remarkably and it was now full of freelancers.

 

This was not just in Thailand but in large European countries. I even tried lying about my age and putting the old pics up to see if it made a difference but no.

 

Unfortunately I am now out of the market but before I did so I ditched online dating and approached them directly on cafes and clubs with massive success. Seems like women these days don’t expect it, and you can inspect the goods in front of you instead of being disappointed by a fatty that only showed her beautiful face in the Tinder pics. And as a bonus I had more often sex on the first “date” than on Tinder.
 

Sometimes I wonder how ridiculous this must sound to the older guys who did not grow up with online dating.

 

I feel ashamed relying for so long on the crutch that is online dating, when the “offline” approach works so well, but it does requires more balls.

Yes, I'm old, but when I was younger people normally got to know each other a while before rutting.

ok so some useful posts here and some negatives ones as expected.

I think it's extremely unlikely I've gone to seed to such an extent in 4 years that my matches has dropped off a cliff. In many respects I'm in a lot better shape than I was back then due to my exercise routine. I spend 2 hours in the gym every day. Perhaps that makes me boring...time wasted when I could be sitting in a bar downing pints !

The reality is the women and Tinder itself have changed. There are many possible explanations

Women don't trust it for a start, most have been pumped and dumped at some stage and and assume every single man is a liar. Even though for many women honesty is not exactly their strong point.

The competition may have increased. in 2016 it was relatively here but now a lot of the men chasing women here on Tinder don't even live in the country. 

Unlike men, even very ordinary women are innundated with matches which probably has the knock on effect of raising their expectations.

Then there are other issues. Women have become expert with beauty apps and most look nothing like their photos. 

And there's the growing obesity problem. A huge percent of women online are overweight. I went on a date once only to find out she was 80kg ! She had used old photos.

Approaching in the real world has the be the way to go now...

Tinder (and Thaifriendly to a large extent)  is a hookup app.  Try Thaicupid.
