What Biden's victory means for Thailand and rest of the world

A leading Thai academic predicted a less-aggressive approach from the United States in a Joe Biden presidency compared to the outgoing Donald Trump administration.

Dr Piti Srisangnam, an economist at Chulalongkorn University, shared his thoughts on his personal Facebook page on Sunday after Democrat Biden beat Republican Trump in the US presidential election.

He said US economic policy, and international relations between Thailand and the US as well as between the US, China and India, would change in form but not in principle. The US will continue to block China's territorial expansion but will not be as aggressive as in Trump’s regime.

Piti said the ongoing trade war will continue in the short term for 1-2 years.

He expected the Democrat administration to adopt neo-liberal institutionalism by opening up new trading platforms.

The new trading platforms must have qualifications and the US has to create the rules as a regulator and a player, he said.

Piti predicted that the US was unlikely to return to the CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership), but it could open a new stage in the Indo-Pacific.

Piti said the person to be watched the most was Vice President Kamala Harris, who would probably be the real policymaker. She is very efficient and talented with high enough potential to be the next presidential candidate and the first female president of the United States, he said.

Piti said what a lot of people wanted to see today was not as much a Biden-Harris victory as the defeat of Trump.

"After the president leaves office in the US, a Hall of Honour and a library will be built. We have to keep an eye on the merits and honours of the Trump Memorial Hall and Library, and in the next 10, 15, 20 and 30 years when the secret documents are de-classified, there would be many scholars wanting to know what happened in the past four years and Trump's secrets," he said.

Absolutely nothing.

Sorry, but it does mean a lot to China and Iran as they support Biden. President Trump has not given up yet and he will not until the Supreme Court hears him out. So we will just have to wait and see what happens as it might drag on for weeks.

Don't expect anything from Biden unless his son shows up with him and that comes from a Demo. ????  Harris either from my home State she will bent with the wind first up is watch both financial records when it is time to leave office then look again. Her first move will be to pay up with India.

It is like sports fraud or no Trump had 3 plus years to fix the problem you know the rules don't b-t-ch about it when you lose. Sadly it was his big mouth that lost him the election pure and simple my switch vote to him wasn't going to help the outcome!

Biden won, get over it

I don't give two hoots who wins just pointing out it is not over yet, remember Gore and Bush in 2000 it did not get determined until 15th December.

Weeks? It´s the US of A you are referring to. It can be months before something gets done.

It's a long process to the supreme court. So far, none of their lawsuits have stuck.  Many have already been struck down.  And the recounts might only give Biden a bigger lead.  Recounts can go either way.

States are the ones doing the certification.  Not MSM.  Every one has said there is  NO fraud.  Just won't make the call until every single vote is counted.  Good for them.

But right now?  Trump's gone.

It remains to be seen i suppose i do know dead people cant vote if the aligations are correct !..interesting to see how it plays out for sure !
