webfact
Video: Trucker caught in blatant lie after early morning smash at red light Picture: 77kaoded CCTV caught a 47 year old trucker in a blatant lie. Kitkarn told the police that a pick-up had gone through an intersection's red light into his path. But the CCTV showed that the lights were on red for the trucker in the 18 wheeler. He plowed into Thossaoporn, 29, who crept across the intersection on the blind side of three other vehicles that were more cautious. Thossaporn was taken to Jurarat 3 hospital in a serious condition after rescue services cut him out of his vehicle. Wannida, a 28 year old motorcyclist was also hurt and taken to another hospital. The collision happened on Thepparak Road, KM marker 23, in the Bang Plee area of Samut Prakan south east of Bangkok in the early hours of yesterday morning. Popular Post ezzra
you can divide local drives into 2 categories, those who go slow and don't go at all when they should be and those who 'steal' the red lights in intersections well into the green light, in any case, in Thailand look not only both ways but any way your head can swivel... 11 2
Popular Post seajae
the amount of thai drivers/riders that will accelerate to go through a red light rather than stop is huge, many several seconds after the lights have turned red as can be seen with all the accidents at lights including this one. For some reason many thais do not like to stop/slow down in any situation where they should, they will pull out in front of others and expect them to stop instead, they totally ignore the road rules because they knowm the police do not enforce them plus they are simply ignorant of other road users or just too arrogant, then you have those in trucks that think they can do it because of their size. You see the police at intersections with traffic lights in the mornings and they simply ignore all those that go through the red lights or ignore the rules, until such time we see the police start to enforce the laws, get out on the roads in proper police cars/bikes around the clock pulling over drivers/riders and actually issuing fines and not just taking tea money the death toll will keep increasing 28
Popular Post Dmaxdan
Yes, the truck driver ran the red light, but because the other vehicles didn't move forward when the lights changed should have been enough warning to tell pickup driver that everything was not as it should have been. Even when you have right of way, you still need check what other drivers are doing. You should never, ever presume that it is safe to proceed, always look!

cardinalblue
Surprised more accidents don’t happen at signal intersections... My favorite is the tail gating accidents where you have multiple pile ups...I don’t have to observe but I know exactly which drivers are at fault...just love ‘em
Popular Post HarrySeaman
I ride a small 125cc motorcycle. One of the first "rules" I learned is to let a few of the other motorcycles or a couple of cars go through an intersection when the traffic light first turns green to serve as the canaries in the mine. In other words, better them than me being killed just to save 5 or 10 seconds. Amazingly I occasionally see a few Thai motorcycle drivers who are similarly cautious. 2 1

Exactly right, traffic lights should be treated here as a cautionary indication of the right to move, with the utmost caution. The victim in this case was blind-sided and thought it was safe. The truck driver should be sentenced to jail time for his recklessness.

Derek B
The speed that truck was going it seems the driver had no intention of stopping. Light was full red for 10 seconds. I think the sequencing of traffic lights in Thailand could be improved somewhat. Amber to Red light was very short it seemed. I wonder if faulty and will anybody check. Edited November 13, 2020 by Derek B added text. Correction.
Anant72
Thais drive the same way they live: they don't plan, they don't think ahead (remember “you think too much”?) they just react to whatever happens. When they drive, they like to tailgate instead of keeping a distance until they are ready to overtake and do not check to see if any car ahead is braking: and so, boom! I try to get used to it but as I get older it gets more difficult so I am paying for my wifes driving lessons so she can take over the school run. I will probably never let her drive me and I will only let her take our daughter to school if I think she is capable.
