PHUKET: Local vendors operating small stalls are reporting that the government’s “Khon La Khreung” (Let’s Go Halves) campaign, whereby the government pays 50% of the bill for items charged by registered vendors, has greatly boosted small-item sales.

The boost is helping the vendors to start generating liveable incomes, while most of the money is being spent on household necessities.

The good news came to light while Ministry of Commerce Phuket Office Chief Premmanee Subchokchai and other officers together inspected the 30-odd small stalls set up in front of the main SuperCheap store in Rassada on Wednesday (Nov 11).

That is great for Phuket that the government is paying half the tab. Of course to do this it is using all the taxpayers in Thailands money to do it with. Never mind that the rest of the country has more unemployed than Phuket and also need government help.

What is the PM doing for the rest of the country with taxpayers money?

The main problem is that I did not think my project all the way through and after years of living in the Land of Smiles, I should have known better. I'm talking about my homemade wood-fired oven that was built to bake me a thin crust anchovy and extra cheese pizza. You see, I am now retired and finally had time to cross this plan off of my bucket list.  My idea turned out perfect although it took me several months of mixing cement, cussing and eating seemingly endless pizza dough attempts.

At the end of the day, what use to be my relaxing oasis has turned into a madhouse every weekend. My wife now runs a pizza joint out in the boonies of Phitsanulok province and it has been crazy. We've been on TV, in the newspapers and the Bamboo Grapevine is still smoking. Recently, she signed up for the 50/50 promotion and the response has been overwhelming. The wife is happy.  I miss the good old days, I'm sick of pizza and it's all my fault...
