PHUKET: Diplomats and spouses from 15 countries arrived in Phuket today (Nov 14) to begin a three-day visit that is hoped to build confidence among tourists to holiday on the island.

The delegation, which included ambassadors and their spouses, landed at Phuket International Airport at 11:30am to be greeted by Phuket Vice Governor Piyaphong Chuwong and his wife Mrs Natthaporn, and Phuket airport General Manager Thanee Chuangchoo.

Also present to greet the arrivals were Kosin Phonmang, Chief of the Phuket Passport Office, and Bhummikitti Ruktaengam, President of the Phuket Tourist Association (PTA) President, who was instrumental in organising the visit.

ah i see; privilege = no quarantine

Ambassadors normally live in the capital city which is Bangkok.

Does anyone need to quarantine when they fly from Bangkok to Phuket?

Of course they don't................????

This is just one of the many perks that ambassadors and their staff and families enjoy, so remote from us plebs who pay their salaries, relocation costs medical expenses and pensions.

You have to remember that 13 is not many, out of over 100 (?) embassies. I am from the UK and would wonder; doubt even; if governance allows for acceptance of such inducements.

This is actually what they do for a living: represent their countries and accept official invitations.

What do these ambassador have to do with tourists ?? Tourists will only come if there will be no stupid visa regulation and other requirement. These ambassador cannot ask mass tourists to come even if they want to.

Have you never accessed your country's embassy website? These people write the official guidelines for tourism from their respective countries, so totally relevant to tourism even in the current situation, which can change. Pretty obvious, not sure why it needs pointing out.

Ridiculous. Have they been jailed in ASQ's? Not allowed to leave their rooms for at least 3 days?

This peoples income do not compare at all with "normal" tourists.

Read some of the comments above. They travelled from BKK, why would they have to be quarantined?

Be nice to know which ambassadors are enjoying this generous freebie. Anybody know?

To answer my own question, 15 countries are listed in today's press. Represented by ambassadors, deputy ambassadors or consuls they are:

Czech Republic, Chile, Poland, Holland, Russia, Luxembourg, Singapore, Nepal, Mexico, Indonesia, Kosovo, Belgium, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
