So because you loathe P.C. liberals, you think it's better to ignore an impending climate disaster, leave millions of Americans in distress about their health care, leave huge tax cuts for the rich in place, not have increased support for social security, have a reactionary supreme court that is doing its best to destroy unions, etc. all because you don't like the company you'd be keeping?

And if Andrew Yang were the Democratic nominee, you would be willing to put up with all those PC liberals for his sake?

Besides the fact 45 appealed to people who fear being considered equal to those who look different from them or who hold different religious views, part of his appeal came from two major trends that are obviating the value of human labor:  globalization and automation.

 

The first might be ameliorated a bit by the 're-shoring' trend brought about by Covid and how it showed how vulnerable multinationals are to supply chain disruption.

 

The second is a trend that is unlikely to do anything but get worse. 45's primary base is non-college white males. Most of those types have job skills that are not well suited to a modern economy. Even most of their outsourced jobs just were sent to a way station whose next stop is oblivion. All labor, but especially unskilled labor, is losing more pricing power every single day, as technology and automation obviate those jobs.

 

45 tried to appeal to these scared folks by promising to 'bring back jobs' that no longer exist and will never use human labor again. Of course he cannot deliver, such as his campaign promise of bringing back coal or steel, and ending up 4 years later with smaller US workforces in both of those fields. Still, hope springs eternal, and some folks will listen to a siren song they are desperate to hear.

 

Tech is moving up the food chain, and will only obliterate more jobs in the future. AI is likely to do away with human computer programmers and code writers. Medical lab technicians are being replaced by more efficient and less error prone mechanical systems.

 

Given the harsh realities of what tech will continue to do to labor's pricing power, there is an expiration date for when a siren song like 45's will be believed. Soon, folks will come to realize the world has changed and left them behind permanently. People like 45 will be ignored because no one will buy their snake oil any longer. They may buy his hate, but not his snake oil.

 

The US---the whole world---is going to have to rework its economic system, because technology will erase the one currently in vogue. There simply is not a viable job for all those who want one. This is not the 1830s when mechanization like the combine sent farm labor away, because that displaced labor could walk into the factories spawned by the Industrial Revolution. Displaced workers today have nowhere to go. Multi-billion dollar companies today often have a handful of employees, and still look for anywhere and everywhere to cut more humans.

 

I don't have an answer because there may not be one. Maybe it's Andrew Yang's idea of guaranteed income, but that doesn't seem long term feasible. I suspect we're on the cusp of a really ugly adjustment in the human condition, and 45 is just a harbinger of much worse to come.

I did and found nothing. Even watched a couple of videos of the BLM counter protest. No antifa flags.

Yang was a true centrist 'not left nor right but forward'. My conscience did <deleted> me re climate change but I figured the rest of the world will not let the world die due to Trump. I am non-political and will support anyone who espouses 'neither left nor right' - i'd appreciate it if you, and others, cut down on the personal ad hominem attacks please. Trump is still POTUS, and hasn't conceded to the obvious.  His failure to concede is another indicator of how little he regards democracy.

No, he can't change his focus to Biden.. None of them can. It's all about hatred, hating Trump, especially his personality. That's it. That's the whole thing. These are simple minded people who let their emotions rule. When Trump cut off flights from China, they branded him a racist. Now they're blaming him for the virus.
