Looking for love? Thailand targets lonely singles in latest bid to attract foreign tourists

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has been working on their latest brainwaves. 

 

They think that one of the answers to improving Thailand's devastated tourism industry is to promote travel to single people looking for love.

 

Especially in February - the Month of Love as it contains Valentine's Day.

 

Bangkok Biz News said the TAT hit on the idea of getting single people to come in and go to selected temples on river tours to pray to find the right marriage partner. 

 

The best temples would be selected that have proven in the past to achieve the finest results.

 

This is a model based on people visiting popular shrines in Hong Kong and Taiwan, they said. 

 

Effectively the TAT would become a matchmaker for singles looking for love. 

 

This was not the only bright idea that Thapanee Kiatpaiboon was working on at the TAT. 

 

They are also collaborating with Thai Airways on "Faith Tours".

 

In this idea foreigners will pray for merit while being flown ABOVE temples well known for supplying bounteous amounts of that commodity. 

 

They will do their praying in the air as they scoot over temples!

 

It appears these ideas were aimed at an Asian market, notes Thaivisa.

OMG are they for real , what do they think all the beer bars/gogo bars are for . There are web sites already for those looking for dates (lol) or relationships so i doubt there is anything TAT could do to increase tourism for the so called lonely people .

Surely just paying the bar fines and subsidies drinks in bars would ensure ensure much more happy times or farangs ????????

These guys are almost as funny as a double showing of Laurel and hardy. They say laughter is great medicine. the TAT are pumping me with too much.????

Why not be honest for a change, and promote bars and bar girls?

If my temples, they mean go-go bars, then yes this is a great idea. I can't help but get the feeling TAT has come full circle though ????

TAT, you are good at putting a price on everything, how much would you expect tourists will be spending on LOVE??? Could you give an estimate of what Thai love costs? Will it be safe for tourists? Will it qualify for the governments "Let's go Halves" scheme?

They are clueless, simply its incredibly difficult and expensive to plan a trip to Thailand ... hence no tourism!

 

Offering buy a tart and get two free style promotions wont change visitor levels.

 

 

Sometimes i think the daily TAT nonsense statements which this site always publishes are arranged to maintain readership clicks and advertising revenue ..... 

 

Thai visa should arrange a weekly competition among readers.

Original, I like it.

This is one of the reasons I moved to Thailand, their simple naivete. Nalak mak. Sure you can possibly find a bar girl for a wife, but there are arguably many more devout buddhist women who may make excellent partners, although even these are not particularly common. Some of these will be perfectly devoted and loving as long as the gravy-train continues, their continuing devotion dependent on the gravy continuing to flow. Having said that, you may be even more fortunate in coming across a partner that will stay "for better or worse". Best of luck.
The pursuit of love is riddled with pitfalls, even more so in the Thai-centric interpretation of farang-Thai interactions e.g. relationship separations, motorvehicle accidents, land-ownership, treatment by the police and military authorities, recourse avenues for being scammed etc. For many it is far safer and cheaper to remain largely single with the occasional tryst, unless you are specifically looking for a 'live-in carer' wife, or starting a family that you may have missed out on in your previous faranng wife. 

Be careful what you pray for... it might just fome true. :)

They really do not have a clue, apart from the fact that foreigners coming here do not need any help finding a partner, what about they way they have been treating the foreigners who are married or in a relationship and have bought apartments or houses and yet restricted from returning to Thailand. This is apart from all the additional requirements to come to Thailand. ....!!!

C'mon man... If I'm going to go bang on something for love, it's not going to be in a temple. And someone above made a valid point, who's vetting the girls? Every woman I've met in this country (my wife included, before you comment) is in it for one thing... It isn't love. If you can accept that and love on, then great. But you're not bringing new guys out and sending them home happy, as soon as they find out they're just walking ATM's for mom's sick buffalo. It takes years it takes years of disappointment to learn that Thai girls are only good at one thing. And maybe "another," (clears throat) if you're lucky. This TAT dude is a <deleted>

One of these 'selected temples' being in the vicinity of Sukumvit Soi 4, no doubt about it. Its a winning formula !
