WineOh
morning all, at the moment I am averaging 1 bottle of red wine per day. I know that this is probably too much and i'm looking to cut down.. However, drinking red wine definitely does have health benefits, so If i am drinking a bottle of red per day, but I make that bottle last ALL day,,, am I really doing myself harm? I dont drink to have fun or socialise, I drink purely to relax. I feel that although some people may think a bottle of red a day is excessive, the speed at which I am drinking them gives my liver time to breakdown the alcohol and thus minimize the risk of scarring. Am I right?? Any doctors in the house ???? Edited December 2, 2020 by Liverpoolfan 1

luckyluke
Everything is relative. foreverlomsak
A bottle a day isn't bad, unless its one of those gigantic bottles, about 5 litres worth. It'll certainly make the doctor stay away if you throw the empties at him (note empties)
Popular Post NCC1701A
here are no positive health benefits to consuming alcohol. none. please no red wine nonsense. the down side far outweighs any positive affects. bkk6060
Drinking a bottle of wine a day can also eventually cause liver damage. How quickly? That depends on your overall health. According to one article, severe alcoholic liver disease is often linked to drinking 20-40 grams of ethanol a day for women, or 40 to 80 grams for men, over 10 to 12 years. A bottle of wine generally has enough ethanol in it to meet, or exceed this level. So, while you may not see the impact immediately, it’s important to be aware of what effect wine is having on your liver. The above is from a health article. Sounds like you have an expensive unhealthy addiction. I would seek some help before you have liver failure. cooked
My great grandma survived cancer for four years on a raw egg -+ red wine diet. This was before the era of modern wine making, I view any cheap wine, red or white, as poison, prefer beer or spirits when I drink, which is seldom. 1

If you feel bad about it then drink less or nothing. But remember, you only live once, enjoy your life the way you want it. And obviously remember 4

One bottle of red wine drunk throughout the day I would say is better than drinking whole bottle after a meal. I drink beer everyday and alcohol in moderation with meals is good for you in many ways IMHO. That said everyone is different. https://www.winerist.com/magazine/all/7-unexpected-health-benefits-of-drinking-wine 1

I believe it's a GLASS a day keeps the Dr away. As to whether it's harming you there are too many unknowns to answer that. Popular Post xylophone
45 minutes ago, FritsSikkink said: If you drink a bottle of wine everyday, you are an alcoholic. The definition of an alcoholic is more about the effects that alcohol has on somebody rather than how much they drink, although the two are interrelated. Having been a red wine drinker for some 50+ years, and most of that time, apart from working in alcohol prohibited countries, drinking a bottle of red wine every night with my evening meal, I have reached the grand old age of 73 and according to all the tests I've had done, my liver is fine. As I have said below, the definition of alcoholism is the dependency upon it, or the effects it has on one. I know some people who after a few drinks turn very nasty indeed, to the point of wanting to fight everybody, whereas others just keep drinking until they are physically sick, and those would be described as alcoholics. I remember touring France with French wine importer from NZ and we were standing in a cellar in Beaune sampling some really wonderful burgundies, when in walked this rather rotund and jolly fellow, with rosy red cheeks, and he started chatting away with the younger owner. This turned out to be the father who had initially started the vineyard, and he looked in fine health, and he was 80 years old and regularly worked in the vineyard, and would consume 1 L of red wine every day and had done since he was 15. I will add that since being here and refusing to pay prohibitive prices for wine, I do seek out the better value wines and have cut my consumption down to around half a bottle of red an evening, again with my evening meal, and suffice it to say that I never drink during the daytime and would never consider spending my time on a bar stool here. I don't need to drink alcohol, in fact I don't drink it during the daytime and I enjoy it with the evening meal, and occasionally when I can't be bothered to cook anything, I don't drink it at all, so I'm not dependent upon it and my behaviour doesn't change. Here are some definitions to consider: – Alcoholism Definition: What Is Alcoholism or Alcohol Use Disorder? Alcoholism is when one can no longer control their use of alcohol, compulsively abuse alcohol, despite its negative ramifications, and/or experience emotional distress when they are not drinking. – An alcoholic is someone who has a physical and mental dependence on alcohol. – Fact: Alcoholism is NOT defined by what you drink, when you drink it, or even how much you drink. It's the EFFECTS of your drinking that define a problem. And this from the Mayo Clinic......Moderate alcohol consumption may provide some health benefits, such as: Reducing your risk of developing and dying of heart disease. Possibly reducing your risk of ischemic stroke (when the arteries to your brain become narrowed or blocked, causing severely reduced blood flow) Possibly reducing your risk of diabetes.
2long
#1 If this post in genuine, then I would say anyone with half a brain and no need for a medical degree knows that a bokkle of red a day is unhealthy. Although I do envy Liverpoolfan and know he's moved near me but have so far failed to stalk him. #2 I am sticking my neck out and calling this out as a troll post. Does anyone remember his lockdown post about a bar in Pattaya charging 20p more than advertised or something daft? How is he paying for a bokkle of red every day? I treat myself do an average (600B) bokkle once a month.

Your liver performs many functions and an important one is to isolate any toxins, prior to them being expelled from your body. Dealing with toxins, such as alcohol is what the liver does all the time. The problems arise when the level of alcohol is too much for the liver to perform its normal function correctly.
