Thai media Ruk Siam News on Facebook raised concerns over the very poor lighting of the road in the area of the Match Factory (Rong Mai Kheet) intersection on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya.

This morning at 4 am a 39 year old motorcyclist called Wassaphon suffered severe injuries after riding his Honda Click down a two meter deep hole in the area.

He was rushed to hospital by Sawang Boriboon rescue with a bad arm injury and multiple lacerations.

A friend said that a group was on the way home when they saw the rider go down the hole in what was a very scary incident. They said the whole area was badly lit making it very difficult to see the road surface.

The media echoed these concerns saying that a spotlight was not functioning at the scene of the accident and there had been many accidents in the area resulting in injury and death due to the poor lighting.

A group riding HOME at 4am, and only one of them fell down the hole?

I'm sure some heads will roll when Health & Safety become involved, on the plus side it looks like the bike landed on its wheels.????

Of course it is the fault of poor lighting and nothing at all to do with some idiot leaving an unprotected 2 meter deep hole in the road.

Time to change the local official then.

And the workers proudly wearing safety first badges all around their body.

Damn lucky to survive a 2 meter drop at speed.

so as usual nobody thought to cover the hole, even wooden planks would help, providing they don't get stolen of course.

they do.  They just don't get mentioned in the press.  I've seen several first hand and they were never in the media.  One reason Thailand is the #1 most dangerous place to ride scooters.

L A  ought to be fined for this incident . just wonder if THE bike rider lights are in working order ?? may Thais drive with no head/rear lights !!

Debatable.

If they live in the area one could assume that they knew the hole was there and for one of many reasons the unfortunate forgot and wasn't looking where he was going.

It only takes a moment's distraction and serious accidents can result, as I know from experience.

You mean YOU also fell down a hole in the road whilst not looking where you were going?

Probably the one with no head lights on,

Or maybe he was the leader and the others saw him fall.

Riding down a hole within a hole is doubly painful if you survive ????

Yes, they absolutely do, and we do see some in the press. And it will happen again, likely in the not too distant future because it takes multiple deaths and serious loss of face to react. And then they simply react at one or two locations, make  a show of it. Then, in the future, at another location, another hole, the same sloppy attitudes, maybe even from the same contractors, will prevail. Having relatives in the right place might help too.....
