No need for further lockdowns in Thailand: Anutin

Public health minister, Anutin Charnvirakul said that despite the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in northern Thailand, there is no need to implement further lockdowns - either local or national.

Speaking on Saturday morning the minister was asked about the COVID-19 situation in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, which has seen an increase in infections after several Thai nationals infected with the virus entered Thailand illegally from neighbouring Myanmar, bypassing the mandatory quarantine requirements.

The minister said that precautionary measures are in place and that all provincial hospitals, medical personnel and other relevant agencies are on standby and ready to cope with any emergency. Because of this there is no need to lockdown the country or any provinces, Anutin said.

Mr Anutin added that measures will be put in place to facilitate the repatriation of Thai workers in Tachilek in order to try and eliminate more and more people from crossing into the country illegally.

Mr Anutin also said that events in the country, particularly over the New Year season should should not be cancelled and should go ahead as planned,

He did however say that people should continue to be on their guard regarding COVID-19.

Anyone attending such events should be required to wear a mask and have their temperature checked prior to entering the event.

Not sure why but it's like I can't find myself to take anything seriously from this man. Rather so, just wait to see what actually happens...

  • I'm not surprised you can't take anything seriously from him. It's ironic that a health minster seems to suffer from foot-in-mouth disease.

  • they'll just ban alcohol instead if numbers start to rise

Considering tourism alongside the amount of holidays here. WTH is up with all the alcohol bans...not to mention simply going to the nearby shop that will sale it to you...

*Goes to a shopping mall, wants to enjoy a meal, can't order a beer...* Christ!

The oracle has spoken. As for a possible ban on alcohol, I have been laying in a firm foundation just in case. If not, just more holiday cheer.

It's ironic that something that doesn't exist but is a mainstay of the Thai economy can also contribute towards its demise.

But state of emergency will continue to be enforced as long as those pesky dek dek are on the streets..

Living in a village, one can buy alcohol at the local store any time.

Acting on the principle whatever this man says, the opposite is more likely to be correct.

I see you've played this game before.

If he proclaims no lockdown, it's a sure bet the lockdown is on its way. Stocking up the liquor cabinet as well.

It is also known has "Talking Head Disease".

Look out! Therw is a lock down coming.

His wrist bracelet made from a string of M&Ms demonstrates that he is just a regular guy in synch with common people. He has pushed aside the plate of smoked salmon and caviar, rejected unhealthy caffeine beverages by inverting the cup to demonstrate his healthy lifestyle. He is just a simple man.

With a suspected 80+ that have already crept through the hole in the fence and only around 10 found that statement might be a little previous.

So it will probably happen !  I’m wondering if the mask is a signal ? When he lies there is no mask and when he kind of lies he wears a mask ? ????

So there you have it from the horses mouth

Even though we have 50, maybe 100 returnees possibly infected on the loose in Thailand,,

because the hospitals are on standby we are safe

Is something lost in translation or is this man dillusional ?

Means there is a further need to implement  lockdowns directly translated from pigeon Anutin ????

First thing to close will be bars and the little remaining nightlife open

People can be infected with COVID and not spike a fever.

Based on his previous "accurate" predictions there will probably be no lockdowns but be prepared for a) No interprovincial travel in/to/from the north (it's not a lockdown as you can travel within your own province), b) Limits on the size of groups and c) Alcohol ban because it causes people to get together.

The current issue (Dec. 4th) of a popular American magazine reports COVID surges in Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong.  With the cooler weather in Thailand, large holiday gatherings may just what Thailand doesn't need.

The same would apply to any of the unelected "PM"s soldiers.

Cops won't like having their protection money cut off again.
