DPM Anutin: No need to enforce lockdown

d861fb2981dd6073bb0bf1df5fb71234_small.jpg

The Deputy PM and Minister of Public Health, has stressed the need for all illegal crossers from Tachileik in Myanmar, to be tested to prevent the virus from spreading.

Deputy PM and Minister of Public Health, Anutin Charnvirakul, today mentioned the COVID-19 situation in the northern region that has infected Thai workers in Thachileik, some of whom have illegally crossed back into Thailand, and caused it to spread in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

However, the infection has still not been found in any other areas. The Deputy PM also warned other Thai workers to follow instructions by reporting to Thai authorities before entering the kingdom via legal access routes.

In addition, the local authority will cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate diplomatic protocols, diagnosis, and state quarantine requirements.

According to Deputy PM Anutin, there won’t be any more cases from future crossings. Only the first group who illegally crossed the border caused the virus to spread, and people who were close to the illegal crossers have all been tested and are being quarantined. He also warned others who have crossed into Thailand but have not reported to the authorities, to come forward and get a diagnosis.

Deputy PM Anutin also assured local residents that there is no need for lockdowns or a province closure. Activities, and entertainments during the New Year Festival can still be held but with stringent measures in place.

Tourists who planned to travel to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai for the December 10-13 long weekend, can still stick to their plans.

Quite agree.

Is he going to avoid any more cases by using the usual government attitude of 'deny, deny, deny'?

Once again the master Bulls+++r opens his mouth and spouts nonsense, reckons no more cases from future crossings, impossible for anybody to say that.

Oh this man is such a smug individual isn't he. No more cases from future crossings....laughable. Are they putting a net in the water to catch people now.  Glad he believes they have plugged the border up just like the little fat man is putting up cameras...just laughable.  Of course ALL contacts have been quarantined..Not.  they have no idea where everyone is, and then the latest two now in Bangkok, one of who is a medical staffer at an ASQ.

well, he has handled Covid 1000 times better than bumbling buffoon Boris.

Similar population 60 deaths verses 60,000.

He didn’t manage to get himself infected with covid either by running around hospitals unmasked and shaking hands with all the infected patients.

He did give the farangs a spray for stupidly refusing to wear free masks he was giving them back in March to help stop them spreading everywhere like in the UK, when Boris was telling people not to wear masks.

More people die everyday from covid in the UK and 30 other countries than the entire total this year in Thailand.

The Thai economy apart from tourism is mostly open, while in other countries they are locking down again, some with some bizarre 4 stages that accomplish little.

Some people it seems will never get over him calling some farangs “dirty”. Frail egos.
Not me, I am happy he said it to wake up the selfish idiots.
Better than having tens of thousands dead.

If he had of locked down the same people criticizing him would be criticizing him for over reacting. They will criticize him regardless of what he does because he hurt their feelings.

I am hoping he has got this call right again. Locking down CM and CR would be the final nail in the coffin for a lot of businesses who have up until now managed to stay afloat.

Dealing with covid is a difficult balancing act, he has done better than most.

Don’t take it personally mate. It was your prattling on about something that I was responding to.

you comment was a personal attack on Anutin, I was just saying he has done a much better job than Boris, or Trump, or Morrison, or Macron, or Putin etc etc.

I think he has handled it as good as anyone and better than most and your are calling him a “Master Bu......er”.

Let’s face it, he cops endless criticism on TVF because he said “dirty” farangs.
I doubt if you could actually understand when he speaks anyway.

Frail egos.

I don’t think a lockdown is necessary at this stage, but I trust he will change his mind if the situation requires it. He was asked about a lockdown and answered in a way not to cause any unnecessary panic.  He is an highly educated engineer. Smart fella.

They should organise mass testing close to the border as illegal crossers are unlikely to volunteer themselves.

A two-week regional lockdown is probably a good idea.

Ergo, it won't happen.

He was educated in the USA and graduated from Hofstra University..  the man speaks almost perfect English as he is from a very elite family, so think again. It is also easy to understand him even in Thai when you can speak the language after living here for 20 plus years.

I can understand him. Highly educated man and well travelled.

I don’t think Colin can speak Thai though, I posted a link previously and I don’t think he understood it, which is what I was saying.

When Anutin spoke about the dirty shower shy farangs, he did it in Thai.

It got twisted a bit in English. It is in the video below. Quite reasonable what he said considering he was frustrated by farangs rudely refusing a free mask during a pandemic.

since you speak fluent Thai I am sure you will agree.

Your view of this incident is vastly different than most. Even the vast majority of Thais seemed aghast at his insult - based on social media responses.

First, a Minister should never get frustrated to the point of insulting anyone.

Second, the foreigners were not being rude. They, for the most part, did not know what was going on. And they wondered why was this man was handling un-packaged masks? Were they for them? For Thais? It was a basic PR cock-up by anutin.

He's much better suited for Transport, but that went to the boss's son. Bigger trough.

I'd say emergency decrees and shutdowns did more to control the virus here than any of anutin's actions? I mean, he mostly just pontificates.

Vastly more than 33mn Thais were offended? I dont think so, I doubt they cared. Delighted to be proved wrong.

I agree. It’s results that count and too many don’t give credit to Thailand’s results. Instead they seize on slight mistranslations to ridicule comments made.

your comparisons to the Uk are accurate, magnified ten times when compared to the USA and equally valid against more than a few other European countries, except they don’t have the Johnson/Trump buffoon factor.

I am no thai apologist, this place often drives me crazy with how it goes about things, but facts are facts and Thailand has better COVID results than most countries.

In the source which you provided Anutin literally said that foreigners are dirty and don't shower. Mind to explain how this got twisted? Maybe you are refusing to accept the facts?

He said many.

Not all.

And it is true. I went to a lot of full moon parties in the 90’s. People up all night dancing, sweating out the drugs they had consumed and then heading out for “recovery” breakfast without washing in the same clothes they had on 24 hours ago. Or some of the old farangs in Pattaya stinking out a whole bank with their muscle shirts or unbuttoned shirts.

Or me, rushing to get my free breakfast buffet before it closes and not showering before I went.
Or the tourists who don’t use the bum gun.

in my opinion they needed a good kick up the a.r. to get them to conform.

it worked aand now Thailand is largely covid free apart from some hookers that messed up. Anutin has given them a spray also.
Good on him.

The man with the crystal ball, he sees the present, past and future. He's superman...he's spiderman....he's the man. So, in this case, why don't you open everything as if viruses of this size respect borders....Hoohah.

Well let's hope he is right about controlling the borders  and no more cases of the Corivirus being found

Might have to eat his words in the coming weeks months ?

I hope someone does a study into exactly why Thailand has apparently suffered so few infections/deaths from COVID-19 in spite of very little movement restriction or interruption to the way of life. It certainly surprises me as generally there is little discipline or willingness to do as the government says. Is there a genetic or climatic element to the spread of the virus that we don't know about? Or are the minimal tests being conducted concealing the true rate of infection? I certainly don't see the same pressure on hospitals that is apparent in other countries. Mask wearing and hand sanitising are very good, but by no means universal so cannot be the only safeguards.

  • Popular Post

How can Thailand say they are mostly virus free when they have only tested .03% of its population? Recently they started testing only the people coming into Thailand. China is where the virus started and Thailand is begging the Chinese people back, which some will bring the virus into Thailand. With the illegals crossing from Burma and the Chinese we will surely have another lockdown.

It's easy to keep figures low if there is no testing.

It's a shame they don't urge the same precaution for motor bikes and the deaths that come with it

Mass testing cost monet-- who is going to pay for it the dirty farangs?

As i noticed.. what happened to the Thai people quarantine 14 days ?it is on paper and not implemented. it was changed to a self quarantine at home.

that mean get home change clothes and go shopping or have fun.

They feel safe because the government told them so.

the virus has no mercy on how you come to thailand by air, boat or walking.

Anybody is a carrier.. or whether you are Thai or not.

In few days, the American and the British will start getting the vaccines.. the pie in the sky that thailand will be the first.. haha to that

Vaccines will requires a lot of testing before they understand how it works.

Does it kills the virus or protect the individual for getting the virus? will he be a carrier ? and how long does it last.. how many dosage a person needs?  given time ,we will know..it all

and who is going to pay for the 60 millions Thai to be vaccinated?  The farang will have to pay a good  Bht 10,000  per dosage.. it is not going to be cheap.

Making in thailand will not be an overnight . it will be a good 2 years before it happened.

Kinda of a mockery that the people actually  spreading the disease are not dirty , un-masked farang but his own people ignoring Thailand's own rules

I strongly doubt it. You wont get out of  China unless you are Covid free.
