webfact
Transport Ministry proposes a committee to decide on Suvarnabhumi 2nd terminal Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has been asked by the Transport Ministry to set up a committee, to be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, to decide whether the North Expansion of Suvarnabhumi international airport requires the construction of a new passenger terminal. The move to involve the prime minister came after the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), the government’s economic think-thank, rejected the second terminal project as proposed by Airports of Thailand Public Company (AOT). The NESDB, in its letter to AOT dated October 29th, confirms its earlier decision to reject the project on the grounds that a new terminal will cost more than expanding the existing one, which can accommodate an additional 30 million passengers annually. sammieuk1
How absurd no sub committee has been formed yet it's the only decision that will be made ????

smutcakes
Will the Committee chaired by Anutin award the construction contract to either Sino Thai (his company) or lots of other companies he works with that he can then get the favours back from?
yellowboat
Asking cha cha to set up a committee is like asking an alcoholic if they would like another drink. That is his addiction. All will be brightest minds from the Thai military. Sounds like a bonanza. The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

Im just curious, but why would the Health Minister be asked to chair a committee tasked with deciding about expansion of airports??

I am all for slating people but the company was on its knees when he took over and to his credit, but hook or crook he built it back up. He is now the major shareholder personally rather than family, as the brother and sister did not get involved in it.
spidermike007
Expanding an airport at a time when the tourism industry is suffering the most catastrophic drop in its history, and the future is as uncertain as it could possibly be? Goes both ways- if they don't make any progress and then proceed to start digging things up after tourism bounces back they would be criticized for no forward planning.

Because in Thailand, the higher up you are, the more important-sounding job titles you can claim. You just magically know everything about everything. I recently saw a very high-up dressed as a judge - and he doesn't even have a degree. 1
