I was bitten by an insect in Thailand and it left a scar that is itchy

I've just recently discovered that a grassy area in front of my Pattaya condo is infested with fleas. I was surprised as I see animals like a cat or  a dog on it very rarely. But there are plenty of bats and birds residing under the roofs above balconies and they are probably the main hosts. Occasionally I saw fleas biting me on my ankles when I walk outside. The bite spots get very itchy afterwards and for a long time. Unfortunately ordinary insect repellents one buys in local supermarkets do not seem to prevent these nasties from biting you.

No its not from me scratching as it only itchs 1-2 times a day, i have sent you some pictures of how it look like, its brownish/red

I was bitten on the ear a few years back and it never really went away and after a couple of years started to create a lump which tended to flare up a couple of times a year. This year it got quite bad and I decided to go to the hospital. The dermatologist came to the conclusion that Dermatofibroma had developed from the insect bite. She said that with this condition the blood vessels are very close to the surface and the area can become red and itchy. She gave me some antibiotic cream but said may need surgery to deal with it permanently, will find out on Wednesday.

I would suggest you do not wait as long as I did and have it checked out.

I was bitten too and 6 months of itching due to a local quack who suggested I use moisturiser. Then I found a doctor that gave me Elomet lotion . And within a week, it stopped.

For all bites I use 2 things If it is swollen put ice on it and once the swelling has gone down I use tooth paste on the bite. Now  I have been in Thailand for 20 years now and been bitten or stung by many insects and this has always work for me and yes Colgate tooth paste is ok. Give it a try what do you have to lose?

There's a tiny tiny fly here, my local doctor calls it a night fly, you can hardly see it, it is so small. However the powder on it's wings is toxic, if you have accidentally brushed this on to your skin, it can end up with very extensive itching and I ended up with scarring like a bright red burn. The doctor gave me ointment which stopped the initial itching and eventually the redness settled down. However it does re-occur, this has been going on for about 7 years now and I probably get the symptoms about once a year, most unpleasant. Even when the itching goes away, I am left with permanent scarring. Incidentially, someone posting here is showing Cephalexin pills, these are most often prescribed for urinary tract infections, not insect issues.

Some time ago my wife came up with a video about a tiny beetle in Thailand, The video is in Thai , however shows what this tiny beetle can do,

You absolutely can not touch this beetle ! I put it in TVF , https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1111246-animals-in-thailand-little-mean-rove-beetles/

I ve been bitten quitte some times,  this year in province in February a tiny mosquito, giving me an allergy isle about 2 centimetres. Itching and used DEET for fighting itch, that worked.

At least i thought it was tiny mosquito, saw it on my body and squashed it instantly, but it had me already.

In the city there are other ones, which mostly come onto your legs and leave little wounds, but not itchy.

were you involved in any other activity in pattaya at that time that might possible lead to an itchy area like that ?

if the answer to this query is "yes" then I would suggest it was either Miss Pong or Miss Lek

Hi, last time i was in thailand 2 years ago, i got bit by an insect under my belly botton, and i started noticing a red mark, that kept growing bigger, and all of a sudden it started hurting a lot, i could barely move, every time i had to do movement that made it move, the pain was unbearable.. So i went to the doctor and he prescribed me pain killers along with 2 other pills that i took, and it healed and i was cured.. But it left a scar that has been there for 2 years there, and sometimes its itching. The red mark/scar doesnt feel the same as my skin, so i assume the condition is still not cured, but looks like how it was since the start when i first got it. My doctor here in Europe dont know what it is so they dont know which pills to prescribe me, and in thailand i forgot the name of the pills that the doctors gave me.

Does any1 know what it could be?

maybe not an insect, but a spider?

I have been in this banana republic for 25 years, and have been bitten by just about everything.

After using quacks and ointments that occassionally worked, I remembered my military survival training.

Urine cures most bites and rashes.  I rub it on the affected area and the pain and itch goes away immediately.  2 days has been the longest the red spot lasted.

Applying urine worked on my jelly fish bites, mosquitos bites, spider bites, fungus.

These quacks need to learn how to help us rather than just milking us.

Uh, no.  There's no scientific evidence that urine "cures" insect bites.

Your drill Sargent was playing a joke on you gullible "newbies".

He or she was teaching you not to believe everything you hear from UNQUALIFIED UNEDUCATED people. ????

Indigenous Australians have been self medicating for years using urine, insect bites, cuts, scrapes and even serious injuries benefit from having urine applied, it stops infection setting in and/or spreading.

It should work ok.Now the reason I use tooth paste on bites or bee stings is when I first came to Thailand I didn't wear a helmet on the scooter my wife had. So I was riding one day and I rode into a swarm of Bees and I had over 40 stings to my face and neck. I truly looked like the marshmallow man ,my face was that swollen. So I went to my local doctor and he didn't know what to do. I was in so much pain and the Thai family went to see the monks for advise so I knew I had to do something quick. So I looked in the internet for a phone book in Calif. for a honey farm.I rang them up and they put me on to ice and the tooth paste. And  I always keep a small tube in my back pocket. And I always wear a full face helmet.

So does antibiotic cream, without the risk of bacteria that can be present in urine.

Most insect bites, cut, scrapes will heal on their own over time.  Doesn't mean urine had anything to do with it.

Science.

Correlation does not prove causation. ✔️

To be honest, is sounds like shingles. Are you sure it was an insect?

Urine works for me.  I have no vested interests in selling anything.  Science does.

The medical term for urine is plasma ultrafiltrate.  Super filtered blood plasma.  One of the cleanest substances available.

The way it works is the urine is negatively charged and any toxin is positively charged.  Opposites attract.  Poison is sucked out.  Simple.

I hope you find relief.  Good luck.

Do you realize urine has toxins in it that are filtered out of your blood?  Putting toxins on a insect bite or wound doesn't sound like a good idea.  What medical school do you go to?  K-Mart?

Urine is mainly made of water, salt, electrolytes such as potassium and phosphorus, and chemicals called urea and uric acid. Your kidneys make it when they filter toxins and other bad stuff from your blood.

https://www.webmd.com/urinary-incontinence-oab/qa/what-is-urine#:~:text=Pee is your body's liquid, bad stuff from your blood.

Urine is NOT sterile.  It contains bacteria.

Science.

In Thailand  Doctors  do often  prescribe  urea  cream for  sores that  do not heal. Seems  to work.  Urine  may be a crude form of  same  intent?

Urine is not "urea".  Urine contains other ingredients.  So, not identical.

Once again, Science says go to a doctor who specialises in tropical medicine.

Don't listen to drunks who never went to medical school or have no education in Science and think "witch doctors" know more than scientists. ????

Exactly.

"Old wives tales" are just that "Old", so called remedies may well have been used for centuries but the contribution to a successful cure is an unknown, as is the percentage of further infection.
