Anutin Charnvirakul

In this era of Covid-19, New Year countdowns can only be held under the government’s laws and regulations, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Monday.

As for the Big Mountain Music Festival in Nakhon Ratchasima province, which was cancelled for not following Covid-19 control measures, he said the provincial governor has to decide on whether the organisers should be sued.

Governor Wichian Chantaranothai had instructed Pak Chong police officers to take legal action against the organisers for violating orders to keep the Ocean Khao Yai resort closed. The organisers may face up to a year in prison and/or Bt100,000 in fines.

"In order to curb the spread of Covid-19, people must proceed under government laws and recommendations, while those who violate the law create problems for others,” Anutin said, adding that people can organise events, including countdowns, provided they follow the regulations.

As for those who attended the Big Mountain Music Festival, the minister said they should isolate themselves for 14 days and see the doctor immediately if they have respiratory symptoms.

“Life will return to normal when the vaccine arrives,” Anutin said, adding that these measures have nothing to do with politics.

“Covid-19 is more worrisome than the state of politics, so we have to strictly enforce laws to protect people from infection,” he said.

Life is never going to return to normal for many Thai Citizens.

The Vaccine ( dont know which, or how many Doses - MOH ) when it does arrive in Thailand, will be for the privileged few first, and the Minions will have to wait it out .

Possibly as long as 2022 before they have a chance of a Vaccine ( if they have the Money for it )

Sure glad Anutin  wasn't around at the function I attended last Friday. 400 plus guests plus catering staff, security, entertainment crew etc. Not mask in site, no social distancing. All crammed around the dining tables. As we do in Thailand.

'E'd 'ave a fit 'e would!

And just for a change, the traditional dance and music display was really good.

And this was just a house warming. Wait till new year!

Where was it? Shh, it's a secret!

Wow, Normal once a vaccine is enforce. Quite optimistic isn't he.  Comparing Covid and politics, which he says is less worrisome is hilarious, unless he thinks that the current political atmosphere is like a virus.  If thats the case then it is even bigger then covid I would think with the number of protestors being summoned and/or arrested by the government.

Agree with you, of course. But unfortunately this is not what the Siamosaurs understand under their concept of the "New Normal". Their "New Normal" is to give 100% control of the country to the top 5 to 10 families here. That's what they are fighting for, against the needs and wishes of the Thai citizens.

These Thai Dinosaurs concept of the "New Normal" is quite similar to a very old, centuries old, Thai "normal". It is to serve, to protect and to strenghen their feudal patronage networks.  And it has very very little to do with Covid.

Brainwaves from the Minister for count downs and keeping C V out were so powerful they could ignite a sparkler in his lughole to match the backdrop from whence he was speaking ..

Good one. I had to go back and check the original photo.

Some official clarity at last. Since previous announcement first vaccination programme will start between June and December 2021 earliest reopening for Tourism will be second half of 2022 provided vaccination programme enlarged and expedited

Are farangs allowed to attend, Khun A-nut-in?

Never a truer saying than,   "Empty vessels make the most noise".

Thousands were PACKED at the recent Firework Competition in Pattaya...
Who's going to be penalised?

you have to forgive the government for turning a blind eye to the Pattaya function which the government expects to regain it/s number one tourist spot next year, does that mean Pattaya no longer needs corvid measures?

Looks like all back to normal around Thailand.

In all seriousness, does anyone know what these laws and recommendations and regulations are anymore?

I see restaurants full of people now, sitting in every chair, people with no masks in the shopping malls, pubs open until (well...after 1 am - I walked past at 1 am), shouting in pubs (it was very noisy)

Feudalism....... 21st century style......  which team's in now..... Hakka, Hokkien, Hailamese,Teochiew ?   There's certainly no geezer from Isaan in there........

I heard the the Big Mountain Festival was officially cancelled due to COVID-19 precautions being ignored. However the, apparent anti-Govenment/Monarchy displays by the musicians and the audience may possibly have had a role to play in the cancellation. Allegedly.

Yea right ,so He says .

It will never be same as before Covid ,Vaccines or not.

but no alcohol sales on an election day??

very draconian....do they know we are in the 21st CENTURY?????

Anutin assures us that things will return to normal when the vaccine arrives. The Oxford vaccine may be approved soon but how long will it take to vaccinate everyone or a majority thais ? Do we know if the vaccine prevents re-infection or transmission ? Only then things will return to a very new normal.
