JR Texas: Some people have malfunctioning salivary glands......can result from genetics, treatments of various kinds, medications, and old age. This usually leads to an acidic mouth, the result of bacteria breaking down food in the mouth (normal salivary secretions reduce bacteria build-up in the mouth). The increased acidity leads to dental carries and bad breath. So, a possible solution is to try to turn the mouth alkaline rather than acidic........many bacteria in the mouth do not like an alkaline environment. So, alkaline water, something I have never heard of, might be useful.....perhaps gargling with it frequently. Or making an tea with alkaline water.
